Guests can now discover Portugal’s most vibrant cities through curated open-air, electric driving experiences designed around slow travel and spontaneous discovery. Bomporto Hotels is introducing a new guest experience in partnership with iconic British automotive brand MOKE International, bringing fully Electric MOKEs to all three of its Portuguese properties and offering guests a more intuitive way to explore Lisbon and Porto beyond traditional sightseeing.

Launching in early July 2026, the partnership reflects a clear shift in luxury travel towards more immersive, experience-led stays, where the journey becomes just as important as the destination. Guests are encouraged to explore at their own pace using curated routes, local recommendations and the freedom to simply follow curiosity rather than a fixed plan. Guests staying at The Lumiares Hotel & Spa and The Vintage Hotel & Spa in Lisbon, as well as The Rebello in Porto, will be able to book an Electric MOKEs directly through the Bomporto guest app or via the Guest Relations teams, with flexible hire options available from hourly experiences through to full-day adventures, starting from 50€ per hour and 225€ per day. MOKE’s presence in Bomporto Hotels signals the first availability to the vehicles of its kind in Portugal.

Each property will feature its own fleet of MOKEs in signature colours including Palm Green, Eucalyptus Green, Shell White and Wave Blue, reinforcing the playful yet design-led character of the partnership. At The Rebello in Porto, guests will also have access to a series of specially designed driving routes that reveal a more local perspective of the city and its surroundings, from the Douro riverfront towards the Atlantic coast, to viewpoints across Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, and coastal drives through Foz and Matosinhos. In Lisbon, routes will span longer coastal escapes towards Cascais and Guincho to more urban loops that move between riverside and neighbourhood life. Expect Belém at golden hour, LX Factory’s industrial edges, and a shift in rhythm through areas like Lapa and Marvila, where the city feels more lived-in than visited. Guests can also enjoy bespoke picnic experiences arranged by the hotels as part of their MOKE adventures.

Originally conceived in Britain in the early 1960s by Sir Alec Issigonis, the father of the Austin Mini, the MOKE quickly became a cult icon in places such as the French Riviera, California and Australia, with early admirers including The Beatles, Brigitte Bardot and James Bond. Reimagined today as a fully electric vehicle, designed and handcrafted in the UK, it retains its original sense of freedom and simplicity while moving into a more conscious era of travel.

For Bomporto Hotels, the collaboration is less about transport and more about changing the rhythm of how guests experience a city. “We’ve always felt that the best way to see a place like Lisbon or Porto is not to over-plan it,” said Nick Roucos, Managing Director at Bomporto Hotels and SLH Ambassador for Portugal. “It’s about having the freedom to get a little lost, to stop when something catches your eye, to follow a recommendation from someone local and see where that takes you. That’s really what this is about for us, and the MOKE just fits into that mindset in a very natural way.”

Rather than focusing on landmarks or structured sightseeing, the experience is designed to encourage a slower, more instinctive way of travelling. By bringing together Bomporto’s design-led hospitality approach with MOKE’s heritage and fully electric innovation, the partnership offers guests a different way to connect with Lisbon and Porto.
