A new self-guided tourism experience is inviting visitors to discover Perth’s northern coastline through a deeper, more meaningful lens.
Stories of the Sunset Coast connects a series of places stretching from Yanchep to Scarborough, bringing together lookouts, wetlands, heritage sites, public artworks and walking trails into one cohesive journey. Developed as a geotourism initiative, the experience encourages visitors to explore not just where they go, but the stories that shape each place and the broader region.
Visitors can explore through three lenses:
- People & Connections – the people, culture and history that define the Sunset Coast
- Land & Time – the ancient landscapes, geology and natural forces that have shaped the region
- Nature & Life – the ecosystems, wildlife and living environments that continue to thrive
Designed to be flexible and easy to access, Stories of the Sunset Coast allows visitors to explore at their own pace, building their own journey along the coastline.
The experience is supported by both a printed guide available from local libraries and a digital hub on the Destination Perth website (www.destinationperth.com.au/stories-of-the-sunset-coast), making it simple for visitors to plan, navigate and engage with the stories behind each location.
By linking locations through shared themes rather than fixed itineraries, the experience encourages dispersal along the coast and supports longer, more immersive visits across multiple destinations.
Stories of the Sunset Coast highlights the unique character of Perth’s northern coastline, shaped by deep time, rich cultural heritage and everyday moments, offering a new way for visitors and locals alike to connect with the region.
Stories of the Sunset Coast is a geotourism initiative delivered in partnership by the Cities of Stirling, Joondalup and Wanneroo as part of the Sunset Coast Alliance in response to the growing interest in conscious, place-based travel.
