Space Girls ON FILM lands in Gympie for a night of cinema, live music, and community
Gympie will play host to a bold new collaboration on June 26, 2026, when two celebrated festivals join forces for ‘ON FILM’.
The event brings together Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival and Space Girls Festival for an event dedicated to building community and showcasing women’s and LGTBQI+ voices in film and music. The night promises to be equal parts celebration, storytelling, and live original music with a femme punk crescendo.
Doors open at 6:00 PM and the Gympie Music Hall will transform into a pop-up cinema and performance space, offering a warm, accessible setting for an audience where all are welcome. The program includes a screening of short films that turn the lens on identity and screen queens followed by live music from Lattes for MILFs, a Sunnycoast three piece grunge/punk/rock wrecking ball.
Lattes for MILFs consist of two girls and one token male and together they make the most baddest threesome since your mum was in college. They play feminist punk rock, think Distillers tongue pashing Wet leg and you get the vibe. In two short years they have played extensively through southeast queer land with interstate and International bands. They are touring NSW next month with two well received singles – FEMINPISSED and Converse Shoe – and are set to record their first album this year.
“The excitement of playing an inclusive, community-focused event where film and live music audiences intersect for us is pretty unique, so of course we are all so keen to join the Space Girls Festival Family!” Lattes For MILFs
“Space Girls ON FILM is about creating a night where everyone feels welcome—whether you’re a film lover, a music fan, or just looking for something interesting and creative,” said Cindy Vogels, Founder and Co-Director of Space Girls Festival. “We’re thrilled to bring these two festivals together in a relaxed, unpretentious space where stories and music can shine.”
“Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival started in Gympie 20 years ago because of the power of short film to tell stories that make a difference, create empathy and connect us,” Festival Director of Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival, Nicole Harper.
The film program for ON FILM was curated by 20 year old Liz Wilkinson who is interning with Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival in 2026 and includes comedy, a musical, international animation and a local documentary.
“It’s so exciting to be able to give younger people in our community a chance to program an event that they’d like to attend, and we all benefit because it’s a great program of film and music,” said Nicole.
Tickets are limited and just $5 per person for under 25 years. The event is 13+ or with a parental guardian, with an emphasis on inclusivity, creativity, and community connection.
