With Japan continuing to experience strong inbound travel, welcoming over 42 million international visitors in 2025, it remains one of the most sought-after destinations for Southeast Asian travellers. Increasingly, these travellers are looking beyond Tokyo and Osaka, seeking quieter, more immersive destinations.
This shift aligns with broader global travel trends, as the resort sector is projected to grow at a 19.6% CAGR from 2025 to 2030, driven by demand for longer, experience-led escapes centred on nature and quality time, a trend we’re seeing strongly across the region.
Against this backdrop, Hilton has announced the opening of Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort, marking the brand’s first resort in Asia Pacific and an expansion into Okinawa’s Miyako Island, known for its pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and relaxed pace of life, just a short flight from major Asian gateways.
Located in the Twuriba district with convenient access to both Miyako Airport and Miyako Shimojishima Airport, the 306-key resort is designed as a locally rooted, lifestyle-driven escape. It brings Canopy’s signature blend of locally inspired design into a resort setting, offering guests an authentic connection to Okinawan culture.
The property features a diverse mix of room types, ranging from spacious guest rooms with private balconies to expansive suites that cater to a range of travel styles. Guests can also enjoy a variety of dining and social concepts inspired by seasonal local produce, including a beach house-style all-day dining venue, a specialty grill, and a rooftop day club with music, tropical cocktails and sunset views over Irabu Ohashi Bridge.
Designed with today’s travellers in mind, the resort offers a range of family-friendly facilities, such as a kids’ club with play equipment and games for all ages, an outdoor activity lawn, wellness and relaxation spaces, and a 24-hour ocean-view fitness centre that appeals to connection, wellbeing, and multi-generational travel. Following the brand’s resort debut, Canopy continues to grow its presence in Japan with upcoming openings, including Canopy by Hilton Tokyo Akasaka in 2028, reinforcing its momentum across key destinations in Asia Pacific.
