Vietjet has been recognised as the most emissions-efficient airline for intra-Southeast Asia operations, according to the 2025 Flight Emissions Review by Cirium, reinforcing its position as one of leading low-emissions carriers for Australian travellers flying into the region.

As travel between Australia and Southeast Asia continues to grow, emissions efficiency is becoming an increasingly important consideration for both passengers and industry stakeholders. Vietjet’s performance highlights how airlines operating short- and medium-haul routes commonly used by Australian travellers connecting through Asia—can reduce their environmental impact while maintaining competitive fares.

The results are based on Cirium’s EmeraldSky methodology, which uses CO₂ per Available Seat Kilometre (CO₂/ASK) as the primary metric—reflecting how much fuel an airline burns relative to the passenger capacity it operates. According to the report, Vietjet recorded 64.5 grams CO₂/ASK, placing first in the Southeast Asia intra-regional ranking, ahead of Singapore Airlines (66.7 grams), Lion Air (67.1 grams), and other carriers.

The ranking compares emissions performance on flights operating entirely within Southeast Asia, a key corridor for Australians travelling to destinations such as Vietnam, Thailand, and beyond. In this environment, where shorter routes can make fuel efficiency more challenging, Vietjet’s performance demonstrates its ability to optimise operations across aircraft utilisation, network planning, and load management.

A new-generation fleet underpins Vietjet’s emissions efficiency. The airline primarily operates Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, including the latest “NEO” variants, which deliver approximately 15–20% fuel savings compared to previous-generation models. With one of the youngest fleets in the region, Vietjet continues to reduce fuel consumption and emissions per passenger—an increasingly important factor as Australia sharpens its focus on aviation sustainability and decarbonisation.

Beyond fleet investment, Vietjet is enhancing operational efficiency through advanced technologies, including flight data analytics platforms such as SkyBreathe and fuel optimisation initiatives like SFCO₂, helping improve performance across its growing regional network.

Previously, Vietjet was named among the Top 7 global airlines for sustainability in 2025 by AirlineRatings, in recognition of its efforts in emissions reduction, fuel efficiency, and green transition. The airline has also received ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) recognition in markets such as Taiwan.

The Flight Emissions Review is Cirium’s annual ranking, providing an independent assessment of the world’s 100 largest airlines based on actual operational data. It enables transparent comparisons of emissions performance across airlines by scale and geographic region, serving as a benchmark for the global aviation industry.
