In a move that feels less like the opening of another hotel brand and more like the unveiling of a new philosophy for travel, Beckons has officially stepped onto the global stage.

Launched today, the luxury hospitality brand brings together two celebrated names in experiential travel, Baillie Lodges and Tierra Hotels, into a single global portfolio devoted to immersive journeys in some of the world’s most remarkable natural settings.

For travellers who believe the best holidays involve a touch of wilderness, a dash of culture and perhaps a glass of excellent wine at sunset, Beckons is clearly designed with them in mind.

Launching with nine extraordinary properties across Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Canada, the brand signals a new chapter for luxury tourism, one where the experience of place matters as much as the thread count of the sheets.

A New Philosophy of Luxury Travel

Beckons has been created around a simple but powerful idea: travel should deepen our understanding of the world rather than merely decorate it with five-star comforts.

The brand’s lodges, each averaging around 25 suites, aim to deliver an intimate guest experience where travellers can genuinely connect with the landscape, culture and communities surrounding them.

In short, luxury travel with purpose.

At the helm is newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Michael Crawford, a veteran of the luxury hospitality sector whose career spans the polished corridors of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and the storytelling spirit of The Walt Disney Company.

Crawford says the philosophy behind Beckons is refreshingly simple.

“Our portfolio is a platform for travellers to experience the world more deeply through genuine cultural exchange,” he explained.

“We believe meaningful travel should enrich everyone it touches: our guests, our teams, and the places that welcome us.”

In other words, hospitality that gives back rather than simply taking photographs.

Two Luxury Trailblazers, One Global Vision

For those who follow the luxury lodge sector, the union of Baillie Lodges and Tierra Hotels feels rather like watching two well-known explorers finally agree to share the same map.

Both companies have spent more than two decades refining a distinctive approach to experiential tourism.

Baillie Lodges, founded in Australia, has become synonymous with extraordinary locations, many of which are situated within or alongside UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Meanwhile, in South America, Tierra Hotels has carved out a reputation for striking architectural lodges embedded within Chile’s dramatic wilderness landscapes.

Together, their properties now form the foundation of Beckons’ launch portfolio across four continents.

And in the increasingly competitive luxury travel market, scale with character is no small advantage.

Riding the Experiential Travel Wave

The timing of the brand’s debut is no coincidence.

Luxury tourism itself is changing.

Travellers today, particularly high-net-worth individuals and an emerging cohort of younger aspirational explorers, are increasingly chasing experiences rather than simple indulgence.

Research from CBRE Group in its CBRE 2025 Luxury Lodging Report notes that demand for authentic cultural immersion and transformative travel experiences is accelerating globally.

Put simply, travellers are no longer waiting for “someday” to take their dream trips.

They’re booking them now.

Beckons appears determined to meet that demand head-on.

A US$100 Million Investment in Experience

Behind the scenes, the group has been quietly investing.

In recent years, approximately US$100 million has been invested in upgrading and reimagining properties across the portfolio.

Among the most notable milestones was the triumphant reopening of Southern Ocean Lodge in late 2023 following the devastating 2019 Kangaroo Island bushfires.

The lodge’s rebirth quickly restored it to its rightful place among the world’s most iconic wilderness retreats.

Meanwhile, early 2025 saw the reopening of Huka Lodge in New Zealand and Tierra Atacama in Chile after extensive redesigns.

Both properties reopened to immediate acclaim.

And the upgrades aren’t stopping there.

Plans for 2026 include new wellness facilities at Silky Oaks Lodge in Queensland and The Louise, as well as premium new suites at Tierra Patagonia.

Extraordinary Places, Carefully Chosen

What makes the Beckons portfolio particularly compelling is its remarkable geographic spread.

In Australia and New Zealand, guests can journey from the wildlife-rich coastlines of Kangaroo Island to the ochre heart of the Red Centre.

At Longitude 131°, just sixteen tented pavilions gaze directly towards Uluru, offering what might be the most dramatic bedroom view in the country.

Up north in Queensland’s ancient rainforest, Silky Oaks Lodge sits above the Mossman River, a stone’s throw from the Great Barrier Reef.

Further south, wine lovers find themselves perfectly placed at The Louise, where the vineyards of the Barossa Valley stretch out like a postcard.

Across the Pacific in New Zealand, Huka Lodge, often described as the “grande dame” of luxury lodges, continues its long tradition of elegant riverside hospitality near Taupō.

And beyond the Southern Hemisphere, Beckons ventures deep into the wild.

Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park and the surreal landscapes of the Atacama Desert anchor the Tierra properties.

Meanwhile, in Canada, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge offers safari-style tented accommodation surrounded by pristine wilderness.

Awards and Accolades

The lodges are hardly strangers to international recognition.

Southern Ocean Lodge and Huka Lodge both appeared on the extended World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 list.

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge currently sits at number 25 in Condé Nast Traveller’s Best Resorts in the World rankings.

Meanwhile, several properties across the portfolio boast coveted MICHELIN Keys, a new recognition program celebrating exceptional hotels.

In short, Beckons begins life with a trophy cabinet already well stocked.

The Road Ahead

Looking forward, Beckons plans to expand thoughtfully rather than rapidly.

Future lodges will be added only where the brand’s guiding principles of connection, regeneration and cultural authenticity can be genuinely upheld.

That careful approach may prove crucial in a luxury travel sector increasingly crowded with well-financed competitors.

But Beckons enters the arena with something rather valuable: authenticity forged over two decades.

For travellers seeking extraordinary places and meaningful journeys, that combination may prove irresistible.

As the name suggests, the world is calling.

And for Beckons, the adventure is only just beginning.

Anne Keam - Bio PicAnne Keam’s story begins in Queensland, on a grain farm in the state’s wide western reaches, where the days were long and the lessons simple: work hard, look after your own, and don’t make a fuss. Those early years left their mark.
She later studied Arts at the University of Queensland, before doing what felt natural at the time, heading back home to the family property. But the world was calling. Anne packed a backpack and went looking, spending years on the road and finding herself most alive in South America. She wrote everything down along the way. Those notebooks, full of dust, colour and curiosity, eventually became her blog, a quiet, personal record of seeing the world and learning from it.
