Luxury small-ship cruise line Windstar Cruises is significantly expanding its presence in French Polynesia, announcing that two yachts will operate year-round in Tahiti from March 2027, the brand’s most substantial South Pacific deployment to date and reaffirming Tahiti and French Polynesia as cornerstone destinations in its global deployment.
This expansion aligns with Air Tahiti Nui’s recent announcement of a Sydney-Papeete direct service from December 2026, making the iconic archipelago even more accessible for Australian travellers.
From March 2027, the 312-guest all-suite motor yacht Star Breeze will be joined by the 148-guest sailing yacht Wind Star, creating the most comprehensive year-round small-ship programme in the region.
Wind Star will continue to operate the line’s signature 7-night Dreams of Tahiti voyage, with lead-in fares for Australian guests from AUD $4,616 per person (1 November 2027 departure). Meanwhile, Star Breeze will expand the narrative beyond the Society Islands, focusing on longer, more exploratory itineraries including the Tuamotus and Marquesas, alongside select South Pacific sailings incorporating Fiji. The 11-night Far Flung French Polynesia & Marquesas Magic itinerary leads from AUD $7,307 per person (3 October 2027 departure).

Onshore, Windstar continues to lean into immersive cultural programming. The line’s Destination Discovery Event in Bora Bora sees guests transported to a private motu for an evening of Tahitian fire dancing, live music and regional cuisine under the stars.
Shore excursions range from lagoon snorkelling and vanilla plantation visits to pearl farm experiences, while the yachts’ signature marina platforms allow direct ocean access for kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming in anchorages such as Bora Bora and Moorea.
With two year-round yachts offering more itineraries than any other cruise line, deeper destination experiences and access to some of the world’s most remote islands, Windstar is well positioned to change the way Australians experience French Polynesia.
Tahiti in particular will benefit from the most frequent departures of any cruise operator in the region in 2027, as Windstar deploys multiple yachts to service both classic Tahitian routes and longer South Pacific journeys, including stops in Bora Bora, Moorea, the Cook Islands and beyond.
What makes this development especially compelling for Australians is the growing momentum behind improving connectivity between Australia and Tahiti. A direct flight from Sydney to Papeete would significantly shorten travel time, opening up French Polynesia as a more realistic luxury escape for a broader audience.
For Australians seeking small-ship exploration in one of the world’s most coveted island regions, Windstar’s strengthened Pacific presence positions Tahiti not simply as a dream destination, but as a compelling and increasingly attainable reality.
