If the hospitality industry has a crystal ball, it will be sitting proudly at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from March 31 to April 3, 2026.

Hotel & Shop Plus (HSP), Asia’s leading trade fair for the hospitality and commercial space industry, is returning with ambition, scale, and more than a hint of swagger. Organised by IM Sinoexpo, the 2026 edition is being billed as the most comprehensive and forward-looking instalment yet, and on the numbers alone, that’s not hyperbole.

We’re talking more than 2,200 exhibitors. Over 220,000 square metres of exhibition space. And upwards of 130,000 professional visitors are expected to pour through the doors from China and beyond. It’s less a trade show and more a small city devoted to the future of hotels, retail spaces and the built environment.

For hoteliers, developers, designers and procurement professionals, HSP 2026 isn’t just another diary date. It’s a one-stop sourcing hub, the sort of place where contracts are inked, trends are born, and reputations are quietly made over strong coffee and smarter conversations.

A Walk Through Tomorrow’s Hotels

The show floor reads like a blueprint for the hospitality industry over the next decade.

Hall E will be the spiritual home of the futurists, with architectural decoration, smart hotels, lighting and intelligent control systems taking centre stage. Expect AI-powered room management, sustainable materials that don’t scream “sacrifice”, and immersive lighting designs that make mood lighting look positively quaint.

Hall W is where comfort meets commerce. A global showcase of hotel supplies and textiles will feature premium linens, guestroom amenities and brand-enhancing products, the tactile details that guests notice, even if they don’t always articulate it.

Halls N1–N4 bring a practical, and increasingly essential, focus on cleaning technology, environmental sanitation and smart hygiene. Robotic cleaning systems, eco-friendly chemicals, and industrial-grade laundry solutions will be on show, designed for hotels, malls, and public facilities that now operate under far stricter health expectations.

Hall N5, the Intelligent Shading and Smart Home Zone, will spotlight innovations in smart windows, sun-shading systems and energy-efficient building technologies, the quiet heroes of sustainability and long-term operating cost control.

New for 2026: Where Sustainability Meets Experience

HSP 2026 isn’t merely scaling up. It’s sharpening its thematic focus.

The new Sustainable Hospitality Solutions Pavilion will showcase low-carbon technologies, green certification services and eco-friendly materials that promise genuine operational impact, not just marketing gloss.

The Smart Retail & Future Office Expo will explore how IoT, AI and digital signage are reshaping commercial environments from hybrid workspaces to customer-centric retail design.

And then there’s the Non-Standard Accommodation & Lifestyle Experience Zone, a nod to the booming demand for boutique hotels, homestays and immersive lodging. This is where hospitality’s creative edge will be most visible.

Where the Industry Thinks Aloud

Beyond the exhibition halls, the conversation will matter just as much as the displays.

More than 80 forums, competitions and networking events are planned. Highlights include Design Week Shanghai, celebrating innovation in hospitality and retail design; Hotel Culture Week, examining brand storytelling and service excellence; and The Charm of Light, a specialist lighting design showcase for architects and interior designers.

The Shop Plus & Future Office Conference will tackle trends in workspace design, smart buildings and hybrid work models, a timely agenda in an era when the office is no longer a fixed address.

The Business Case for Being There

Hotel & Shop Plus 2026 isn’t shy about its intent. This is about future-proofing the hospitality and commercial space industries.

Whether you’re sourcing new suppliers, tracking emerging technologies or positioning your brand for the next wave of guest expectations, this is where the market’s momentum will be most visible and most actionable.

And yes, entry is free, provided you register.

About the Writer.
Charmaine Lu - Bio PICCharmaine has always had a quiet kind of courage. She grew up in Shanghai, a city that moves at a tempo all its own, and somehow managed to keep her own rhythm studying accounting for the discipline, then the arts for the sheer love of beauty. “I needed both,” she says, “to feel whole.”
When she left China for Sydney in the 1980s, she carried nothing but a degree, a suitcase and a belief that she could start again. The first sea breeze off the harbour felt like permission. She met Stephen, and together they built a family, two children, a home filled with laughter, and a life straddling two cultures without apology.
Work has always been more than a job. Long before search engines became the centre of commerce, Charmaine was quietly helping companies be found and read not just SEO but stories people wanted to click on. That is still her gift: finding connection in a crowded world.
Her life is less a résumé than a testament to grace under change, the accountant’s discipline, the artist’s eye, and a heart big enough for two continents.
