The Sunshine Coast is about to welcome a new event space – a multi-million dollar hangar designed to host events and house private jets. The Machjet Hangar has been confirmed to host the SunnyKids Mayoral Ball next month – a signature gala event for the region.

The 2,200 square metre space can accommodate 1,080 banquet style with 108 round tables to allow for a large stage, dance floor and kitchen. With 9.4 metre high ceilings, large ceiling purlins every nine metres and three phase power outlets throughout, the new venue allows for extensive lighting, audio and prop rigging.

In October, its first event will see the state-of-the-art facility transformed – blending the glamour and excitement of aviation with the elegance the annual Ball is renowned for.

Now in its ninth year, the SunnyKids Mayoral Ball is a powerful campaign that raises vital funds to support children and families experiencing domestic and family violence and hardship.

This year’s event will feature one of Australia’s most respected voices in journalism and public discourse, Madonna King, as the Keynote Speaker. Guests can expect fine dining, live entertainment and inspiring stories, while contributing to a cause that touches thousands of lives across the region.

Kathleen Hope, CEO of SunnyKids, said hosting the Ball in the Machjet Hangar marks an exciting new chapter for the event.

“The Mayoral Ball has always been about uniting our community to create safer futures for children and families. In 2025, we are proud to elevate the experience even further by being the very first to stage an event in Machjet’s stunning new hangar. It will be an unforgettable evening that combines glamour with purpose,” Hope said.

Simon McDermott, Managing Director of Machjet International, said the company was proud to partner with SunnyKids.

“This hangar represents growth and innovation for our company, and we couldn’t think of a better way to showcase it than by supporting the Mayoral Ball. We’re proud that this will be the first-ever event in the space and to stand alongside SunnyKids in creating an extraordinary evening for such an important cause.”
