Spread the love

Corporate travel has long been the land of sighs, spreadsheets, and last-minute scrambles. Executive assistants morph into air traffic controllers, and travellers cross their fingers, hoping the right flights and hotels are booked before the fares skyrocket.

Enter Flight Centre Corporate’s shiny new toy: Trip Options. Rolled out across Corporate Traveller, FCM Travel, and the theatrically inclined Stage & Screen Travel Services, this new planning tool promises to save time, temper and perhaps even marriages by bringing order to what has always been a thoroughly chaotic process.

Goodbye screenshots, hello sanity

The brilliance and, dare I say, common sense of Trip Options lie in its simplicity. Instead of endless emails, frantic screen grabs, and awkward phone calls (“Did you mean the 7 a.m. or the 7 p.m. flight?”), arrangers can now whip up multiple itineraries online in minutes.

Flights? Done. Hotels? Sorted. Car hire? Tick. All neatly corralled in a single platform. And then, with a mouse flick, it’s whisked off to the traveller, who can either nod approvingly or tweak with a few clicks. No more policy-breaking “I’ll just book it myself” surprises.

The gospel according to Elf

Melissa Elf, Global COO of FCM Travel and Corporate Traveller, was in no mood to undersell it.

“What distinguishes our Trip Options solution from our competitors is its transformative approach to corporate travel management, focusing on organisational efficiency and traveller satisfaction,” she declared, with the kind of conviction usually reserved for product launches involving shiny gadgets or sports cars.

Elf insists this wasn’t some indulgent tech experiment but a straight answer to a customer gripe that’s been around since the fax machine.

“Before Trip Options, bookers found the process of locking in an itinerary inefficient. Trip Options solves that problem… It makes life easier for arrangers and smoother for travellers no more back-and-forth emails, no screenshots, and no rogue bookings.”

Frankly, she’s got a point. If corporate travel arrangers had a dollar for every wasted hour spent chasing approvals, they’d have retired to Tuscany by now.

What’s under the bonnet?

The tool comes with enough bells and whistles to satisfy the fussiest CFO:

  • Build multiple itineraries for domestic or international trips, side by side.

  • Send feedback to Traveller without blowing the budget.

  • Draft and Confirm features to keep mistakes at bay.

  • Lock fares in early before the airlines decide to test your patience.

  • Compliance baked in, so no one goes rogue with a five-star suite in Paris “by accident.”

Why this matters

Corporate travel has been a game of cat and mouse for decades: bookers chase approvals, travellers chase upgrades, and finance chases everyone. Trip Options offers something deceptively rare clarity.

One tidy email, a handful of options, and the power to say “yes” or “let’s tweak that hotel” without descending into a reply-all nightmare. Travellers feel consulted. Arrangers feel in control. Finance feels reassured. And, miraculously, the inbox feels less like a battlefield.

More than just tech

What makes this noteworthy is not just the platform itself but what it represents: a travel giant recognising that the most minor friction points, the endless micro-delays of “have you decided yet?” are what truly exhaust people.

By stripping away the noise, Flight Centre has effectively admitted what everyone knew but few said aloud: the corporate travel industry has made bookers’ lives unnecessarily complex. Trip Options is the olive branch.

Final boarding call

Let’s be clear: this isn’t some utopian fix for all that ails business travel. There will still be missed flights, middle seats, and the odd rogue traveller determined to test the system. But it does mark a rare moment when technology is being used with a bit of empathy, aimed at solving human irritation rather than dazzling the IT department.

Or as Elf herself summed it up:

“By prioritising efficiency, accuracy, and compliance, Trip Options gives a seamless travel experience.”

It’s not going to make booking business trips glamorous, but it may make it bearable, and in corporate travel, that’s nothing short of a revolution.
