Spread the love

Vanuatu Tourism - LOGOVanuatu is emerging more potent than ever as Australian travellers reaffirm their love for the island nation, fueling a tourism resurgence in the wake of December’s earthquake. Despite initial disruptions following the 7.3-magnitude tremor, Vanuatu’s tourism sector has made an impressive comeback, with forward bookings surging and confidence in the destination firmly restored.

Unwavering Travel Demand Amid Resilience

Industry leaders report a significant spike in demand from Australian tourists, with bookings increasing from May onwards. According to Jenny Price, Product Manager at Fusion Holidays, the outlook for Vanuatu is exceptionally favourable.

“We’re seeing a steady increase in demand for Vanuatu holidays, with forward bookings for April to June exceeding expectations. With more flight options and enticing package deals, this momentum is set to continue well into 2025,” Price said.

Echoing this optimism, Ignite Holidays’ Product Development Director Mark Ferszt revealed that 2024 has been a milestone year for Vanuatu tourism.

“Bookings have skyrocketed by 103% compared to last year—a true testament to the enduring appeal of Vanuatu. Even with the liquidation of Air Vanuatu in May and the earthquake in December, traveler confidence has remained strong. Our My Vanuatu team successfully rebooked over 80% of impacted passengers, demonstrating the strength of our brand and our unwavering commitment to seamless holiday experiences,” Ferszt stated.

Seamless Air and Cruise Access Keeps Travel Flowing

Despite the natural disaster and shifts in the airline sector, accessibility to Vanuatu remains uncompromised. All four airlines servicing the route from Australia—Qantas, Virgin Australia, Fiji Airways, and Solomon Airlines—have continued operations, ensuring travellers reach their destination within three hours.

Cruise travel to Vanuatu has also maintained its momentum. Popular stops like Santo and Mystery Island remain on major cruise itineraries, reinforcing the country’s status as a top-tier holiday destination.

Hotels and Resorts Fully Operational, Ready to Welcome Guests

Vanuatu’s tourism industry has swiftly rebounded, with over 80% of hotels and resorts fully operational and welcoming guests. Loic Bernier, Chairman of the Vanuatu Hotels and Resorts Association (VHRA), emphasized tourism’s pivotal role in the nation’s recovery.

“Tourism is the backbone of our economy, and its rapid resurgence following the earthquake underscores the resilience of our industry. Essential services have been restored, ensuring travelers experience the best of Vanuatu. With continued strong bookings and reliable air access, 2025 is shaping up to be a phenomenal year for tourism,” Bernier remarked.

Ben Smith, General Manager at Ramada Resort Port Vila, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewed travel enthusiasm of Australian visitors.

“The resilience of the Ni-Vanuatu people is truly remarkable. Despite challenges, the spirit of Vanuatu remains unshaken. We’re witnessing an influx of bookings, and travelers can look forward to the same warm hospitality that makes Vanuatu so special. The beauty, culture, and adventure that define this paradise remain untouched,” Smith affirmed.

Vanuatu Tourism Office Encourages Aussies to Join the Recovery Journey

Vanuatu Tourism Office CEO Adela Issachar Aru urges Australians to be part of the country’s revival by choosing Vanuatu for their 2025 travels.

“Vanuatu is open and ready to welcome visitors with the same warmth and authenticity that define us. Over 80% of our tourism businesses were minimally affected and resumed operations within days of the earthquake. Iconic experiences—such as Tanna’s volcano tours, Santo’s pristine beaches, and our famous land-diving events—are fully operational,” Issachar Aru shared.

Although Port Vila’s CBD remains under repair, essential tourist hotspots remain accessible. The vibrant Mama’s Markets and fresh produce stalls have relocated, ensuring travellers can still indulge in authentic local experiences.

“Your visit supports not only the local economy but also the heart of our community. Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, Vanuatu offers it all. There’s never been a better time to visit,” she added.
