Gai Tyrrell, a formidable leader in the travel industry, has announced her resignation as managing director of Asia Pacific for the Globus family of brands (GFOB). Tyrrell, who has been at the forefront of the company’s operations in Australasia since 2018, will officially step down in January 2025, marking the end of a dynamic and transformative tenure.
Reflecting on her decision, Tyrrell expressed pride and gratitude for her time with the company. “It has been a privilege and a joy to be part of the Globus family and to lead the business in our region through the past six years of change,” Tyrrell shared. “This has been a difficult decision that I have not taken lightly. However, with major projects completed and an exceptional commercial management team in place, the foundation is set for the next phase of the company’s growth in our region.”
Tyrrell’s departure caps off a remarkable journey that saw her guide the company through significant milestones and unprecedented challenges. Since joining GFOB during its 90th-anniversary celebrations in August 2018, Tyrrell has been instrumental in elevating the company’s profile across Asia Pacific. Her tenure included spearheading the organization’s restructuring in Australasia, navigating the disruptive COVID-19 pandemic, and driving market expansions into Southeast Asia and South Korea.
Scott Nisbet, President and CEO of GFOB, lauded Tyrrell for her unwavering dedication and transformative leadership. “We thank Gai for her energy and contributions leading GFOB through a particularly challenging era in Asia Pacific,” Nisbet stated. “Her strategic vision strengthened our headquarters in Sydney and Auckland, drove impactful commercial initiatives, and enhanced the experiences of our partners and customers. Her legacy will be a foundation for future growth.”
Under Tyrrell’s guidance, GFOB forged new distribution partnerships in Asia, representing its portfolio of products in key markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. This strategic expansion cemented the company’s regional presence, positioning it for sustained growth.
As the search for Tyrrell’s successor begins, GFOB remains committed to its vision of delivering unparalleled travel experiences. Tyrrell’s departure signifies the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for the company.
