RAJA AMPAT
Raja Ampat Archipelago | SeaTrek by Bantanta Island | Lesser Bird of Paradise
Staying aboard one of SeaTrek’s magnificent pinisi boats, the following 9-day journey is packed with immersive marine adventures, expert led expeditions and David Attenborough moments. Recognised since 2011 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the remote islands of Raja Ampat are the global epicentre of marine biodiversity.
Venturing through islands and archipelagos, guests will encounter the mysterious stingless jellyfish at Klabat Lake, discover Lesser Birds of Paradise in their native ‘lekking’ trees, and visit a pearl farm in a protected, deep water cove – an important industry that provides employment for many people in the local area.
Guests also have the chance to stretch their legs with various jungle treks and waterfalls visits and a visit to the replica jungle hut of 19th century naturalist, Alfred Russel Wallace in Yenbesir Village.
Keeping to their own pace, guests can paddle and kayak at each island, or explore the technicoloured coral reefs – home to the shy black tip reef sharks, spadefish and giant clams – whilst snorkelling.
SeaTrek’s traditional luxury pinisi ships, Katharina and Ombak Putih, have been built by the highly-skilled seafaring peoples of Sulawesi, using hand tools and traditional methods of construction. Sleeping between 12-24 guests, these iconic vessels offer comfortable private cabins with en suite bathrooms, a salon and bar, and plenty of room for guests to spread out, relax, and enjoy as much company or solitude as they wish.
