Manila, the beguiling capital of the Philippines, is making final preparations as it steps up to host the World Travel Awards Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony 2024. The historic city is welcoming travel and tourism figureheads from across the region for the VIP reception at City of Dreams Manila, World Travel Awards Official Hotel Partner, on 3 September.

The gala evening will mark the fourth leg of WTA’s 2024 Grand Tour, rewarding and acknowledging travel excellence across every continent. Categories cover the entire spectrum of the industry, ranging from hotels and resorts to airlines and tour operators.

WTA’s Philippines debut reflects the buoyancy of the nation’s travel and tourism economy. Tourism revenues rose 13 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2024 following significant public investments in tourism infrastructure, plus improvements in land, sea and air connectivity.

The bustling metropolis of Manila is a global hub for both business and leisure travellers, offering a superb glimpse of Philippine culture, history, entertainment and nightlife. Visitors can experience everything from exploring the ancient walled city of Intramuros to discovering artisan markets and Manila’s thriving arts scene.

Graham Cooke, Founder, World Travel Awards, says: “Tourism in Manila is riding the crest of a wave of new opportunities and experiences, and I am thrilled that our gala reception will welcome travel and tourism leaders from across Asia and Oceania to experience the many charms of this incredible city.”

DOT Secretary, Christina Garcia Frasco, expressed her enthusiasm: “This not only marks a historical tourism milestone for our country under the Marcos administration, but also serves as a testament to the Philippines’ growing prominence and readiness to host high-calibre international events. We are glad that esteemed global organizations, like the World Travel Awards, are recognising our capacity to deliver world-class hospitality, superior event management, and unparalleled tourism experiences,” adding that the gala is also an avenue to network with various tourism stakeholders in the region.

Other regional ceremonies on the WTA Grand Tour 2024 include Berlin (Germany), Dubai (UAE), Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, and Diani Beach (Kenya). The winners of these regional ceremonies will progress to the Grand Final in Madeira (Portugal) at the end of the year when the winners of the prestigious World categories will be unveiled.
