Skål International, the esteemed global organization advocating responsible travel, proudly announces the open call for submissions for the 2024 Annual Sustainable Tourism Awards. With a legacy of recognizing outstanding contributions to sustainable practices since 2002, these awards honour public and private sector organizations, educational institutions, NGOs, and government agencies that have achieved remarkable milestones in advancing sustainability within the global tourism industry.

This year, Skål International renews its influential collaboration with UN Tourism, marking another step forward in strengthening the global commitment to responsible travel practices. During the recent General Assembly and the 44th Affiliate Members Plenary Session held on October 16, 2023, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the joint promotion of the Skål Sustainable Tourism Awards Project was officially accepted into the Affiliate Members Department Programme of Work 2024-2025 under “Affiliate Members’ projects and initiatives.”

This collaboration unlocks unparalleled opportunities to promote excellence in sustainable tourism practices globally, providing Skål International with the means to highlight best practices that other organizations, companies, and countries can emulate for a more sustainable future.

Skål International is also thrilled to continue its partnership with Biosphere Tourism and the Responsible Tourism Institute, which will award each winner the prestigious “Skål/Biosphere Sustainable Special Award.” This accolade includes a complimentary one-year subscription to the Biosphere Sustainable platform, enabling winners to create personalized sustainability plans that facilitate continuous improvement.

Additionally, Sustainable Travel International joins Skål International as a partner to reinforce the vision of these awards and extend their reach to the broader international tourism community.

An elite panel of judges, comprising seasoned leaders and experts in sustainable tourism, will conduct the evaluation process for the awards. Their identities will be officially revealed at the awards ceremony, which will take place on October 17, 2024, in Izmir, Türkiye.
