AmadeusIn an age where sustainability and digital innovation have become the twin pillars supporting the future of travel and tourism, a transformative initiative is making headlines with its bold global expansion. The Travel4Impact Network, a visionary program orchestrated by Amadeus and IE University, is now casting its net worldwide, marking a significant leap towards fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and digitally advanced travel industry. This remarkable initiative stands at the forefront of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) committed to eco-friendly practices and technological advancements, heralding a new era for the sector.

The Travel4Impact initiative, now welcoming participants from across the globe, opens its doors to the Americas for the first time, underlining its commitment to a universal transformation. The fourth edition, set to commence in September 2024, promises an unprecedented opportunity for around 40 SMEs to embark on a growth, innovation, and sustainability journey. This expansion reflects a steadfast dedication to nurturing a travel and tourism industry that prizes environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic success.

Crafted in collaboration with IE University, renowned for its academic excellence and forward-thinking ethos, the program has left an indelible mark on over 60 SMEs. These enterprises have seen remarkable progress in amplifying their positive impact and accelerating their journey towards digitalization. A testament to its success, a satisfaction survey from the program’s first two editions revealed that an overwhelming 72% of participants harboured an enhanced outlook on their business’s future, buoyed by their involvement in Travel4Impact.

The program’s cornerstone, the fully funded six-month launchpad phase, offers C-level executives and founders a rich curriculum designed by IE University’s esteemed professors. This phase delves deep into digital strategy development and integrating sustainable practices, ensuring businesses survive and thrive in the modern landscape. An impressive 87% of participants acknowledged the pivotal role of educational support in incorporating sustainability into their business models, marking a significant stride towards a greener industry.

Echoing participants’ sentiments, Patricia Plesner, CEO of EcoHotels.com, shares, “Our journey with Travel4Impact has been transformative, to say the least. The program opened our eyes to the ripple effect of sustainable practices and digital ingenuity, inspiring a wave of change that transcends our operations.”

As the program evolves, so does its offering, with the introduction of Co-Lab Sprints and a consulting initiative to address the unique challenges participants face. These additions underscore Travel4Impact’s dynamic approach to fostering innovation and collaboration among its members.

Esther Villena, Global Head of Social Impact at Amadeus, emphasizes the critical role of SMEs in the travel ecosystem, stating, “Our mission is to harness our position within the travel ecosystem to effect positive social change, working alongside IE University to empower businesses at the heart of sustainability.”

Concepción Galdón, Director of IE Center for Social Innovation & Sustainability, reflects on the program’s ethos, “Travel4Impact is more than a program; it’s a collective journey towards transforming passion into impactful business practices that benefit society and the environment.”

As the application window remains open until April 30th, Travel4Impact invites leaders from SMEs across the travel sector to join this groundbreaking movement. With a vision to weave sustainability and digital prowess into the fabric of the travel industry, the initiative promises to shape and redefine travel’s future.
