The global interest in Eurovision is increasing. When the music competition takes place in Malmö, there will be an audience from more than 80 countries. The major Eurovision nations are well represented. But Malmö will receive visitors from virtually all corners and continents of the world.

As the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 approaches, Malmö is preparing for a global celebration with ticket buyers from all parts of the world. The UK tops the list of foreign visitors, accounting for almost a fifth of total ticket sales.

However, interest in the event extends far beyond the borders of Europe, with the USA and Australia in the top ten list along with Germany, Denmark and Spain. Malmö will also receive long-distance visits from fans from countries such as Mexico, Brazil and New Zealand.

– Malmö welcoming Eurovision fans and visitors from such a large and diverse part of the world is truly fantastic. It clearly demonstrates the event’s appeal and its ability to unite people through music, culture, and diversity, says Karin Karlsson, who is the managing director city host event Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.

More and more people are discovering Malmö as a tourist destination, a trend that has been evident for many years. The cultural offerings, the rich food scene, and the great diversity in a small area that is easy to get around attract many.

With 186 nations represented in the population and being located closest to the continent, Malmö is not only Sweden’s window to the world but also the gateway to Sweden.

– We see Malmö as a place where people, cultural expressions, and traditions come together and get to know each other. This is what our event should also reflect. When people from over 80 countries are welcomed by Malmö residents with backgrounds from over 180 nations, it can be incredibly exciting, says Karin Karlsson.

Foreign ticket buyers account for 66% of the total number of tickets sold so far. The remaining 34% come from Sweden.

– It’s also very exciting that so many visitors are coming from our own country, seeing Eurovision and the public celebration we create as an opportunity to experience and get to know Malmö. We are planning an incredibly broad program in the city with a focus on music. Even if you’re not a Eurovision fan or a schlager enthusiast, we can guarantee that the program will offer something for you, emphasizes Karin Karlsson.
