Vertical AerospaceIn a move that cements the future of zero-emissions aviation, Vertical Aerospace, a leader in aerospace and technology, announced a colossal $50 million investment commitment from its founder and CEO, Stephen Fitzpatrick. This significant infusion of capital marks a pivotal moment in the journey of Vertical Aerospace as it accelerates towards the coveted goal of Type Certification by the end of 2026.

Stephen Fitzpatrick’s unwavering belief in Vertical Aerospace’s potential has driven the company’s rapid progress. “Since founding Vertical in 2016, I have continued to believe in the enormous potential the company has to pioneer zero-carbon aviation,” Fitzpatrick remarked. His investment is not just financial; it’s a testament to his confidence in the company’s vision and capabilities.

This new funding is set to extend Vertical’s financial runway into the second quarter of 2025. It’s a strategic move, facilitating the continuation of its certified aircraft design development following the impressive progress made with its prototype this year.

The company is currently on the verge of completing its second-generation, full-scale VX4 prototype. This aircraft is expected to be a game-changer in the aviation industry, with critical public flight demonstrations planned for 2024, including a high-profile appearance at the Farnborough International Airshow and a historic flight to and from Heathrow Airport.

Mike Flewitt, Chairman of Vertical, expressed his enthusiasm: “I am delighted that Stephen has committed to further funding Vertical. His vision and funding to date have enabled Vertical to be a frontrunner in the Advanced Air Mobility industry.”

2023 was a landmark year for Vertical, marked by several significant achievements:

  • The inauguration of the Vertical Energy Centre and the development of a complete battery powertrain.
  • Receiving Design Organisation Approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority.
  • Successful completion of the thrustborne test campaign with the VX4 prototype.
  • Accumulating pre-orders for 1500 VX4 aircraft valued at over $5 billion.
  • Strengthening its engineering team with key hires in various crucial areas.

These milestones underscore the company’s commitment to revolutionizing the aviation industry through sustainable, zero-emission aircraft.

The investment structure is carefully planned, with an initial tranche of $25 million at $10 per share and a subsequent tranche, ensuring the company’s momentum in achieving its ambitious goals. This move is also set to influence the company’s Board composition and shareholder meeting proceedings, underscoring Fitzpatrick’s significant role in the company’s direction.

Vertical Aerospace’s strategy is characterized by an asset-light, lower capital approach supported by an ecosystem of top-tier aerospace and global operating partners. In 2023, Vertical reported a disciplined approach to expenditure, with net cash used in operating activities approximating $95 million.

This investment is more than just financial backing; it’s a statement of faith in the future of aviation. It signifies a shift towards more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly air travel, setting a new standard in the aerospace industry.

With this $50 million investment, Vertical Aerospace is not just soaring towards new heights in aviation technology but leading a global movement towards zero-carbon emissions in air travel, paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.
