With thousands of islands spread across an archipelago stretching from west to east, travelling between islands is an integral part of experiencing Indonesia. A new 13-day itinerary from Bali Moto Adventures brings together seven islands across three archipelagos, combining motorcycle travel on land with boat journeys between destinations.
The itinerary begins in Bali, travelling through a combination of coastal and inland landscapes. The route passes through areas around Mount Batur, Ubud and more hidden gems, with stops that include volcanic landscapes, rice terraces, waterfalls and temples.
The journey then moves offshore to the Gili Islands. With no motorised vehicles on the islands, the experience shifts from road travel to exploring by bicycle, traditional horse-drawn carriage and on the water. Snorkelling and diving form part of this section of the journey, with time spent around the three Gili islands.
From the Gilis, the route continues to Nusa Penida. The island’s limestone cliffs and beaches create a significant change in landscape, with the itinerary including Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach and Diamond Beach, as well as time on the surrounding waters.
The final stage takes travellers to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, crossing between the islands via the Yellow Bridge and exploring coastal and mangrove environments before returning to Bali.
Rather than concentrating on a single destination, the itinerary is structured around the connections between Indonesia’s islands, using different forms of transport as part of the journey. Motorcycle routes provide the link between inland and coastal areas, while boats connect the islands that cannot be reached by road.
