On Monday, June 15, the world’s first drone scoreboard debuted in Seattle. The scoreboard, which showed the final score of the Belgium vs Egypt match (1-1), is a match-day tradition in the making.
Created by Visit Seattle (the destination marketing organisation for Seattle), this is the first time that a same-day score has been implemented as part of a drone show.
Visiting fans and residents gathered to catch the futuristic scoreboard in the sky next to the iconic Space Needle. The scoreboard will continue for the duration of Seattle’s remaining five World Cup matches, aiming to change the fan experience forever.
Celebrating the city’s first ever World Cup, the scoreboard embodies Seattle’s history of innovation (the city is home to some of the world’s most influential tech companies), strong sports fandom, and iconic skyline.
The next scoreboard will be live on Friday June 19 for USA vs Australia. The Seattle Center showing is free and open to the public, with schedules available at visitseattle.org
