Spread the love

If the way to a traveller’s heart is through their stomach, then Fiji Airways is rolling out the red carpet down the aisle. In a move that proves the national carrier isn’t merely content to serve meals in the sky, but to plate up culinary theatre at 30,000 feet, Fiji Airways has unveiled a swish new Pacific Rim-inspired menu alongside its much-anticipated Dine on Demand service for Business Class passengers.

This culinary curtain-raiser isn’t just about food—it’s a statement. It says Fiji Airways is hungry to match strides with the world’s best while staying true to its heart: the warm, unmistakable spirit of Fijian hospitality.

Dine When You Like, Not When You’re Told

Gone are the days of airline trays arriving at set times like clockwork, whether you’re dozing off or engrossed in your third episode of Death in Paradise. With Fiji Airways’ new Dine on Demand offering—debuting on select long-haul routes—Business Class passengers can now choose what they want, when they want it. It’s all about freedom, comfort, and a touch of luxury that wouldn’t be out of place in a five-star restaurant.

“We’ve taken what’s beautiful about Fijian hospitality and elevated it to meet the expectations of today’s sophisticated traveller,” said Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO, Andre Viljoen, sounding rather like a man who’s not only tasted the menu but helped plate it. “It’s not just food—it’s a crafted, cultural experience.”

A Menu Inspired by Oceans and Origins

The new Pacific Rim menu is a love letter to Fiji’s location—an intersection of Asia, Oceania, and North America—and is as bold as it is refined. From the spicy zest of Southeast Asia to the clean elegance of modern Australian cuisine, it’s a fusion that makes perfect sense when served in the heart of the Pacific.

Let’s whet the appetite, shall we?

  • Grilled Mahi Mahi with Prawn Chilli Oil, served atop corn coriander cake with a zingy lime marmalade.

  • Hamachi Crudo with Octopus and Ponzu, accented with Fijian sea grapes (nama)—delicate, briny, and refreshing.

  • Fijian Chicken Curry, rich with coconut and layered with Indo-Fijian heritage.

  • Roasted Cauliflower with Pacific Greens and Garlic Cream, a vegetarian standout with genuine flair.

  • And for dessert? Try the Salted Chocolate Crème with Pistachio and Caramelised Banana, or the feisty Kumquat Cheesecake that doesn’t hold back.

Each dish is freshly finished and elegantly plated onboard, with crew trained in serving and presenting, pairing wines, and elevating each guest’s culinary journey.

Sip Local, Sip Luxurious

Not content with just reinventing the plate, Fiji Airways is also pouring considerable charm into its beverage service. Cold-pressed juices, freshly made in Fiji from tropical fruits and vegetables, kick things off with a health-conscious nod. The wine list is an oenophile’s dream, boasting premium varietals from Australia, New Zealand, and California.

Then there are the cocktails and mocktails—a signature series designed to celebrate the islands—featuring local heroes like Blue Turtle Gin Fiji and Fijian Bati Rum. And let’s not forget the finishing touches: artisanal Fijian chocolate, crisp white table linens, bone china, and a locally handcrafted vau flower gracing each Business Class table.

Economy Gets a Touch-Up Too

While Business Class gets the full gastronomic gala, Fiji Airways hasn’t forgotten those in the tail section. Economy Class passengers will notice updated meals, new snacks, hot chocolate (hallelujah!), and a mocktail and cocktail selection that proves even Economy deserves a little razzle-dazzle.

Special meals? Pre-arranged with ease. Inclusivity is baked in—pun very much intended.

Flying the Fijian Flag with Pride

Viljoen sums it up best: “We fly for Fiji. Every detail—every ingredient—brings Fiji to the world.”

And indeed, this strategic upgrade is part of a broader plan to see Fiji Airways soar alongside the world’s top-tier carriers. Through clever investments in food, beverage, training, and sustainable sourcing, the airline is turning in-flight service into an ambassadorial affair.

By July 2026, the new Pacific Rim cuisine and service standards will be fully deployed across the network. For now, lucky long-haul passengers will get their first taste—and from the sounds of it, they’ll be going back for seconds.

Author’s Note:
Airlines come and go, menus change like runway weather, but Fiji Airways’ latest offering feels timeless. It’s a throwback to the golden age of air travel, dusted with island flair and served with a modern wink. Bon appétit, or as they might say in Nadi—Kana Vinaka!
