Island Shangri-La is delighted to have been awarded a place on the Conde Nast Traveler The Gold List for 2026, marking it as one of the most exceptional hotels in the world.
Selected by a panel of international editors as a top choice for outstanding service, design, and luxury, The Gold List sets a benchmark for unparalleled travel experiences and is known as one of the most prestigious recognitions in the travel industry.
Island Shangri-La sits at the very beating heart of Hong Kong, a city hotel that retains the calm feel of an urban resort. The recent and ongoing multi-year renovation has been thoughtfully planned to create spaces and experiences that ease the pace of city life.
Recent developments include the opening of the award-winning wellness centre YUN WELLNESS, a serene sanctuary offering a carefully curated collection of holistic wellness treatments tailored to individual needs complete with a tranquil pool deck.
Closely followed by the debut of the Family Floor which has redefined family travel with 21 luxurious themed rooms and suites. Complemented by exclusive family services, the Family Floor includes ‘The Hangout’ – a beautifully designed living-dining-play room and ‘The Pantry,’ which offers a wide range of children-related appliances for parents. The recently launched Hong Kong Suite, is a new ultra-prime suite inspired by Hong Kong’s culture of contemporary hospitality perched on the 50th floor. Alongside it, The Shangri-La Suite presents a bold expression of glamorous living, reinventing the art of glamorous living through a striking super suite that feels inviting and warm, redolent of a stylish private residence, with layered colours, textures and patterns, crafted pieces and fine art, and a thoughtful, flexible layout designed for sophisticated, design-conscious global travelers.
Offering a unique luxury experience that starts at the airport, Island Shangri-La guests are transported to the hotel in a Rolls Royce to be greeted by their private butler who is at hand to book dining reservations at one of Island Shangri-La’s restaurants. Michelin-starred Petrus offers exquisite French fine dining by Executive Chef Uwe Opocensky, beautifully complemented by breathtaking views of Victoria Harbour from the 56th floor. Meanwhile, Michelin-starred Summer Palace offers classic Cantonese cuisine.
Clifford Weiner, General Manager of Island Shangri-La states “We are truly honoured to be recognised on the Conde Nast Traveler The Gold List for 2026, a true testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the whole team here at Island Shangri-La. We look forward to continuing to provide special experiences and exceptional service for our guests, something that is at the heart of Island Shangri-La.”
Condé Nast Traveler Gold List contributor Chris Schalkx says “Ask my seven-year-old his favourite hotel, and he’ll tell you it’s the Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong, home to an entire family floor with a toy train chugging through the hallway and suites with secret slides and spaceship beds straight out of Howl’s Moving Castle. These OTT accommodations are part of a top-to-toe revamp of the 30-year-old grande dame that blends its old-world opulence with a modern edge. Other fresh touches include the reimagined Shangri-La Suite, a maze of glossy marble and hand-painted walls; a spa featuring a botanical theme; and a modern Hokkien-style diner, Ming Pavilion. Luckily, the classics remain unchanged: Service is still unparalleled, and chichi Cantonese mainstay Summer Palace continues to dole out the shrimp dumplings that have earned it a loyal following.”
