Holafly, a leading travel eSIM provider, has released a global report showing how and where people travelled internationally in 2025, following the recent unveiling of its world-first, permanent global data plan eSIM.
The data found that across all international trips, nearly half (46.4%) were to destinations they hadn’t visited before. Despite this appetite for discovery, the report saw loyalty is surging: among the ten most-visited destinations, an average of 74% of travellers said they planned to return.
The data also showed where travellers went in the world in 2025, with the US topping the list. The country is expected to host 68 million in 2025. France was the second most visited country, with travellers focused on its dining, culture and design and 68% saying they planned to return. Canada and Italy were next, followed by Australia in fifth place.
Half (5/10) of all international travellers to Australia visited for the first time, while 8 out of 10 travellers planned to return. Travellers from Southeast Asia to Australia surged by 18%, likely driven by relaxed visa policies and new regional air routes.
The report also found that half (55.5%) of international travellers took two or more trips. Of those travellers, those under 44 tended to blend leisure, learning and remote work, visiting two to three countries in a year, while older generations preferred one or two longer, more immersive stays, defined by comfort and connection.
“Travellers in 2025 are seeking places that feel meaningful,” said Pablo Gómez, CEO of Holafly. “The destinations leading this year’s ranking succeed because they offer a mix of everything; the destination is no longer a single city but the entire country.”
“Travellers take the opportunity to explore the full soul of a place. Our Global eSIM & Travel Report 2025-2026 reveals a traveller who is not just moving across borders but engaging with the world in a more intentional, more human way.”
