Just when you thought the Black Friday sales couldn’t get any bigger, nib Travel has wandered in with a quietly confident offer that gives Australian travellers an excuse, if they needed one, to dust off the suitcase and plot the next great holiday escape.
With the season of frantic tapping and swiping almost upon us, nib Travel has confirmed it will deliver 20% off all domestic and international travel insurance policies from 13 November until 9 December 2025, 11.59 pm AEST. A generous window, and one that feels almost old-fashioned in its restraint, well beyond the usual blink-and-you ‘ll-miss-it flash sale.
Black Friday, once a foreign import observed mainly through American sitcoms, has become a fixture on the Australian shopping calendar. This year it’s expected to corral 55 per cent of shoppers, with national spending tipped to reach a striking $6.8 billion between Black Friday on 28 November and Cyber Monday on 1 December. A staggering figure, though hardly surprising for a country that loves a bargain almost as much as it loves a beach holiday.
For nib Travel, the timing is deliberate. With many Australians eyeing off year-end breaks or the first quarter of 2026 for their next adventure, the insurer is looking to deliver practical value when people most need clarity—before they’ve packed, paid, or panicked.
“*The 20% discount offers considerable value to travellers who will be booking their travel plans during this busy period,**” said Dylan Wilkinson, General Manager International & Partnerships at nib Travel.
Mr Wilkinson said the promotion isn’t simply about helping individual holidaymakers, but also giving travel agents an added tool as bookings heat up.
“nib Travel’s Black Friday promotion also enables travel agents to offer their clients a timely option as they book end-of-year holidays both domestic and offshore. It also allows us to assist agents in meeting their clients’ demands,” he said.
It’s a timely reminder that travel insurance, often treated as an afterthought wedged between accommodation confirmations and last-minute packing, is most effective when booked early. According to nib’s own data, most customers finalise their travel insurance roughly 50 days before departure, which feels adequate until life throws the inevitable spanner.
“Many travellers don’t realise how important it is to secure travel insurance early,” Mr Wilkinson said. “If you book your insurance with nib Travel at the same time as booking your trip, you’re more likely to be covered for situations that could arise before you head away. If you wait until closer to departure, you could be left without cover for key cancellation events, potentially leaving you out of pocket.”
There’s an unmistakable logic to this, a kind of back-to-basics approach that older, wiser travellers have long understood. Insure first, worry less later. Still, each holiday season, plenty of Australians take the opposite approach, waiting until the week before departure before discovering that certain events, illnesses, or cancellations aren’t covered because the policy was purchased too late.
Wilkinson’s message here is a gentle nudge: don’t risk it.
While the Black Friday offer applies to single-trip policies, the company is also using the moment to highlight one of its quieter workhorses, the Annual Multi Trip (AMT) policy, designed for those who take more than one holiday a year or who frequently combine business and leisure travel.
“If you’re travelling more than once a year, organising multiple insurance plans can be a hassle. That’s why nib travel insurance offers 12-month Annual Multi Trip (AMT) travel insurance for frequent travellers that provides cover for overseas and domestic travel more than 200km from your home in Australia, with each trip lasting up to 45 days,” said Mr Wilkinson.
For agents, the AMT policy can be a dependable solution for their most peripatetic clients—those who land back in Australia only long enough to do a load of washing, kiss the dog, and board another flight.
As more Australians fill their digital carts in the lead-up to Black Friday, nib Travel’s offer arrives with a distinctly practical edge. It’s not a gadget, not a blender, not a novelty purchase you’ll regret by January. It’s a safety net—one of the few things you hope never to use but are grateful to have when life happens.
Travellers and agents wanting full details can visit www.nib.com.au/travel-insurance, or pick up the phone—still the most traditional way to get good advice, and sometimes the most reassuring.

About the Writer
Indonesian-born Octavia Koo arrived in Australia in the early 1980s, drawn by the creative promise of Sydney and a place at UNSW, where she studied Arts and soon discovered her flair for visual storytelling. She began as a graphic designer, quickly turning her sharp eye for detail towards the digital frontier, designing websites and crafting polished descriptions that draw people in—and keep them reading.
Her next chapter took her to Singapore, where she built and managed blogs for several tourism platforms, uncovering a natural gift for SEO long before the term became fashionable. There, amid the buzz of ITB Asia, she met Stephen, who suggested she consider Global Travel Media. A few years later, she did just that.
Now part of GTM’s editorial family, Octavia brings a quiet brilliance to her work. She merges art, technology, and intuition to tell travel stories that charm and perform, much like their author.
