Lotte Duty Free, one of the world’s leading duty-free retailers, has completed the makeover of its Melbourne International Airport Arrivals store, unveiling a refreshed retail experience that celebrates the city’s unique laneway culture and iconic street art.

The highly anticipated renovations, which commenced in August 2024, saw the interior design delivered by Bates Smart architects with signage by Pigeon Ward design practice. Creating a distinctly Melbourne welcome, the 1,600 m² space reimagines the arrivals shopping experience with style, functionality and efficiency in mind.

Carefully created to reflect the travellers’ mindset upon landing, the retail space crosses two sides of the concourse, with beauty showcased on one side and liquor on the other, connected by a striking reflective ceiling passageway. Shoppers will find global favourites such as CHANEL, Dior, and LEGO® among more than 300 brands, alongside new traveller-friendly features including self-checkout stations, a tasting bar, lockers for Click & Collect, and Lotte Duty Free’s signature customer service.

Drawing inspiration from Melbourne’s streetscapes, the store incorporates red brick on the liquor side, cobbled pavement, signage, lanterns and inlaid brass plaques, creating a vibrant atmosphere. In contrast, the beauty side comes alive with dynamic lighting and sleek concrete-render finishes. Meanwhile, both sides are unified by graffiti-inspired artwork from prominent artists including Steen Jones, Tom Civil, Meggs and George Rose.

“Whether travellers are returning home or visiting, our Melbourne Airport Arrivals store has been designed to put a smile on their faces from the moment they see it. The store captures the spirit of the city through its laneways and graffiti art, while delivering a seamless shopping experience,” said Sean Lee, Managing Director at Lotte Duty Free Oceania. “Together with Melbourne Airport, we’re striving to make duty-free shopping an experience that is both memorable and rewarding.”

Melbourne Airport welcomes the completion of Lotte Duty Free’s Arrivals Store refurbishment. Following its announcement of a multi-billion-dollar expansion to the international terminal by 2031, Melbourne Airport is reinforcing its commitment to elevating the arrival experience for travellers.

“It’s great to see Melbourne celebrated in our Arrivals retail precinct,” said Jai McDermott, Chief of Retail at Melbourne Airport. “The new Arrivals Duty Free store gives visitors a wonderful welcome to our city before they even step outside the terminal.”

To celebrate the reopening of the Melbourne Airport Arrivals store, customers who shop for eligible products* online until 31 October 2025 will earn 10x Qantas Points when they provide their Qantas Frequent Flyer membership at check-out and collect their items in-store. Customers can order their products online from 60 days before travel and up to 24 hours before.
