A Shared Culinary Vision

Founded by Chef Hans Christian and restaurateur Budi Cahyadi, August embodies the richness of Indonesia’s culinary heritage while embracing modern perspectives. Since opening its Jakarta doors in 2021, the restaurant has become a rising star in Asia’s dining scene, honoured with the American Express One To Watch Award 2023 and ranked #49 on the most recent list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025.

Debuting in November 2021, August is helmed by Chef-Owner Hans Christian and Managing Partner Budi Cahyadi. Together, they have created a dining experience that is refined yet approachable, nestled in Jakarta’s Sudirman Central Business District. The restaurant offers a distinctive culinary

journey rooted in modern techniques while celebrating the richness of Indonesian spices and flavours. Apart from being the founding duo’s birth month, the name August reflects their aspiration to be both impressive and respected—an ethos that shines through in both their cuisine and warm, attentive service. August champions premium, responsibly sourced local ingredients. Seasonal line-caught fish is procured from the waters around Lombok, eggs from James & Jen Farm in Bogor, specialty vegetables from IP Farms in Lembang, fresh vanilla pods from Experience Vanilla in Sukabumi, and single-origin chocolate from across the archipelago by Pipiltin Cocoa. These collaborations allow Chef Hans to craft dishes that are not only delicious but also reflective of Indonesia’s culinary richness.

At Andō, Chef Agustin continues to weave together his Argentine roots, Spanish training, and Japanese sensibilities in a cuisine defined by memory and narrative. This collaboration with August deepens his ongoing exploration of how culinary traditions evolve when viewed through different lenses, creating an experience that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. In 2025, Andō embarks on an exciting new chapter this season with a completely reimagined lunch and dinner tasting menu, a refreshed wine program, and new design touches in its intimate dining room and private dining room. These changes are a reflection of Andō’s continuous evolution since the restaurant’s opening in 2020 — an ever-unfolding expression of Chef Agustin’s personal and culinary journey.
