The team at The Louise is thrilled to announce an exclusive culinary collaboration with one of South Australia’s own celebrated chefs, Duncan Welgemoed.
On Friday, September 12, Duncan Welgemoed, the South African-born owner-chef behind Adelaide’s iconic Africola and Africola Canteen, is bringing his fearless, fire-driven cooking to The Louise in the Barossa for a one-night-only dining experience in the lodge’s dedicated event space, Contour.
Known for his bold, African-inspired flavours and inventive approach to fresh vegetables, grilled and smoked meats, delectable flatbreads, fascinating ferments, and vegan desserts, Duncan will design a shared plates menu that reflects his flavour-packed cooking style, complemented by specially selected Barossa wines. Diners can expect a menu that reflects Duncan’s heritage, his signature spicy, loud style, and the region’s famously fine local produce.
Guests, locals and visitors will have a rare opportunity to experience Duncan’s deeply personal approach to flavour in the easy setting of Contour, with its elegant Barossa surroundings overlooking the region’s bucolic vineyards.
Duncan’s special menu includes highlights like Gazander oysters with Bloody Mary hot sauce, peri peri chicken hearts, spiced lamb shoulder with devilled mint and smoked pumpkin with tahini cream and boom chakalaka. Mop with moreish sourdough and churned butter and finish with an unforgettable Amaro flan.
Duncan’s career spans bestselling crafting cookbooks (Africola: Slow Food, Fast Words and Where There’s Fire), and appearances on hit streaming series The Bear and Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil. Duncan has earned local and international acclaim over the course of his career, and diners at The Louise’s Africola dinner will have the chance to share his culinary vision.
The Louise General Manager Hannah McGregor said she was excited for the upcoming collaboration with Africola.
“The Louise has long been recognised as a culinary destination, and we’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Duncan Welgemoed to our kitchen,” Ms McGregor said.
“Duncans’s fearless approach to flavour and storytelling through food aligns perfectly with our passion for produce-driven dining experiences. This one-night-only event marks the beginning of exciting collaborations and events at The Louise, with more to come,” she added.
