Australia’s closest neighbour, the South Pacific destination New Caledonia, recently welcomed the Today Show to its beautiful and sunny shores for three days of weather crosses to air live on Channel 9. The partnership offered an incredible opportunity to showcase the beauty and culture of New Caledonia to Australian audiences.
On the first day, the show reported on the weather from the capital of Noumea, while exploring the city on a double-decker bus. The journey included visiting the viewpoint Ouen Toro, enjoying a morning coffee at Le Meridien Noumea Resort & Spa, paddleboarding on Anse Vata beach, and sampling French produce during a picnic with a local baker.
After wrapping up the first morning, the crew travelled to Bourail, further up on the West Coast, where they reported at the annual Agricultural Fair. The Bourail region is known for its New Caledonian Cowboy culture, and they received a first-hand look at this big event that attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year. The Today Show highlighted crowd favourites such as whip cracking, potato peeling contests, and the playful flip-flop competition, all set against the vibrant atmosphere of the fairgrounds.
While in Bourail, the crew stayed at the Sheraton Deva Resort & Spa, conveniently located a short drive from the fair and surrounded by the beautiful green hills and crystal clear waters in the UNESCO-protected lagoon. Between broadcasts, the resort provided the perfect backdrop to highlight the destination’s natural beauty and leisure experiences, including the Deep Nature Spa, golf at the Deva Domain, and horse riding on the beach.
Through the partnership with the Today Show, more than 315,000 Australian viewers experienced New Caledonia’s stunning landscapes, French-Pacific culture, and vibrant events. Audiences were also invited to discover it for themselves through the Today Show New Caledonia Giveaway, offering one lucky family the chance to win a holiday including return flights with Aircalin, nights at Le Méridien Nouméa Resort & Spa and Sheraton Deva Resort & Spa, and private transfers.
The project coincides with the promising increase in returning travellers to the destination, ready to rediscover Australia’s closest neighbour. Since the reopening of the destination at the end of 2024, the destination has welcomed an increasing number of visitors from Australia, showcasing Australians’ eagerness to once again explore the beautiful archipelago.
