Ground Bangkok proudly presents “Etched in Time”: The Quiet Power of Charcoal, a solo exhibition by Jirasak Anujohn, an artist whose deeply emotional, high-contrast charcoal drawings illuminate the quiet dignity of aging.
Jirasak Anujohn was born in 1980, Lopburi, Thailand. Jirasak’s work demonstrates the life experience and the passage of time through the wrinkles on the elderly’s face. A desire for working on charcoal is to create dramatic and realistic drawings. This allows him to produce high-contrast images that are visually bold and emotionally expressive
With charcoal as his medium of choice, Jirasak discovered a form of expression – one that balances technical mastery with raw emotion. His work, now recognized in numerous national art competitions, is known for capturing the passage of time etched into the faces and, more recently, the hands of the elderly. In his latest series, Jirasak shifts focus from facial expressions to the intricacies of aged hands – hands that have held, worked, fought, nurtured, and endured through life’s highs and lows. These pieces go beyond aesthetics; they’re quiet reflections on life, resilience, and impermanence. Through black-and-brownish tones, shadows, and light, Jirasak invites us to pause and honor the beauty in life’s quietest yet most telling details.
