The Harrow Hong Kong Scholastic Open Chess Tournament held on Sunday 11 May 2025 at Harrow International School Hong Kong in conjunction with Caissa HK Chess Club, was a resounding success, attracting 424 players aged 6 to 18 from 109 schools across the region.This year’s tournament featured a special appearance by Grandmaster Ding Liren, who engaged with the participants, signed memorabilia, played simultaneous exhibition matches and shared insights into the game, inspiring young players with his expertise and passion.
Hosted at Harrow’s picturesque Gold Coast campus, the event was a vibrant showcase of talent, strategy and sportsmanship. Over 800 visitors enjoyed the state-of-the-art facilities, creating an exciting atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike.
Harrow International School Hong Kong emerged as the overall schools champion, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the competition. Participants engaged in multiple rounds of intense chess matches, showcasing their strategic prowess and passion for the game. 

“The campus at Harrow Hong Kong is very welcoming, with chess players really enjoying playing football during their breaks and the chilled atmosphere,” said Grandmaster Ding Liren.
The event featured players from diverse backgrounds, creating a rich tapestry of competition and camaraderie. With matches running smoothly thanks to dedicated volunteers and staff from Caissa HK Chess Club and Harrow Hong Kong, the tournament successfully provided a platform for young chess enthusiasts to shine.
