Speakers of the sharing session included Ms. Ho Sut Heng, Member of the NPC, President of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions; Mr. Kevin Ho King Lun, Member of the NPC, President of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau; Mr. Ip Sio Kai, Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Chairman of the Macau Association of Banks; Mr. Lam Lon Wai, Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Macau; and Mr. Lawrence Ho, Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Chairman & CEO of Melco.

The event’s Guest of Honor Mr. Sun Yaohua, Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, was welcomed by Melco management executives including Dr. Kent Wong, Chief Advisor; Mr. Alidad Tash, Executive Vice President, Analytics and Gaming Operations; Mr. Tim Kelly, Property President of City of Dreams Macau; Mr. Kevin Benning, Senior Vice President and Property General Manager of Studio City; and Dr. Raymond Lo, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Marketing and General Manager of Altira Macau and Mocha Clubs.

Hosted at City of Dreams, the event was attended by Melco management and non-management colleagues and representatives from Macau’s educational institutes, including professors, teaching staff and students. For greater reach, the session was also broadcast via live feed to colleagues across Melco’s offices in Macau, Hong Kong, Manila, Cyprus and Sri Lanka. A highlight video will be produced and shared with colleagues at the Company’s Heart of House areas to further promote the Sprits of the “Two Sessions”.

Mr. Lawrence Ho said, “This year’s government report specifically proposes for Hong Kong and Macau to strengthen international exchange and cooperation; not only highlighting the direction for the development of these two cities but emphasizing their key role in the country’s overall development. In Macau, we should focus efforts on being ‘supported by the Motherland and connected with the world’, to leverage the country’s strategic resources and play the role of an international exchange outlet to contribute to China’s prosperity and development. As one of Macau’s leading leisure and entertainment companies, we should actively contribute to deepening international exchange and cooperation, and further consolidate the city’s position as an integral world tourism center.”

Mr. Lawrence Ho went on to provide insight on how to enrich the local tourism and leisure experience and help boost the economy in Macau; better tell China’s story and enhance foreign exchange; and promote integrated development in the region.

Ms. Ho Sut Heng said the government work report proposes to “invest in people”, serve people’s livelihoods, promote enhanced employment and resident income growth while supporting a reduction in burden, strengthening consumption incentives and forming a virtuous circle of economic development and improvement of people’s livelihood to fully reflect the central government’s people-centered development philosophy. She emphasized that the central government cares about and attaches great importance to Macau, with the report specifically proposing for the city to deepen its international exchanges and cooperation, underlining both the central government’s love and requirements for Macau. She believes the city must accelerate efforts in supporting diversified economic development, focusing on its position as “one center, one platform, and one base” to further leverage its unique advantages, and to play a more active role in the country’s high-level development in order to respond to the central government’s expectations with practical actions and results. Ms. Heng also encouraged Macau employees to actively improve their comprehensive capabilities and better seize development opportunities.

Mr. Kevin Ho King Lun shared that the government’s work report highlighted China’s economic performance and future goals, and those key achievements included a 5% GDP growth and a stable unemployment rate. For 2025, targets aim for consistent economic growth and enhanced social welfare through proactive fiscal policies. Mr. Kevin Ho went on to share that the report emphasizes boosting domestic demand, promoting a modern industrial system, and maintaining effective governance to ensure sustained economic and social development.

Mr. Ip Sio Kai further shared that the country’s governance system and mechanisms have achieved remarkable results, enhancing institutional confidence in the people’s democracy throughout the entire process; and that the trend of stable economic development has been consolidated and continued, boosting confidence in the country’s economic development and response to external challenges. The central government has proposed an economic growth target of about 5% this year and introduced various policies and measures aimed at stabilizing employment, preventing risks, and benefiting people’s livelihood. These include the implementation of a more proactive fiscal policy, a suitably loose monetary policy, and strengthening the people-oriented focus of macroeconomic policies. All sectors of Macau should further seize these opportunities, give full play to the unique advantages of being “supported by the Motherland and connected to the world”, enhance its internationalization level and global appeal, promote economic diversification, and play a better role in the country’s opening to the outside world.

In his presentation, Mr. Lam Lon Wai discussed the four expectations that Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang had for Hong Kong and Macau’s NPC & CPPCC members. He shared topics from the government work report to illustrate the steady progress of China’s economy, that the central government is investing in the people with a people-centered approach, and that young persons in the fields of science and technology are shouldering the responsibility of national development.

The sharing session forms part of Melco’s “Splendors of China” learning program. The program aims to promote patriotism and the principle of “Loving the Country, Loving Macau” through education on the culture, history, modernization and latest development of the Motherland to Melco colleagues and the wider community. To date, “Splendors of China” has recorded over 9,000 annual participations from colleagues who completed the mandatory course modules, with 83% of participants completing more than the one required elective. Post-course surveys show that over 93% of colleagues felt more proud of China’s achievements, and that they would like to learn more about China’s history, culture, and development as a result of the program.
