Respected tourism executive Craig Davidson has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ).
Craig is widely known in the Australian tourism sector, having enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career working across hotels, resorts, attractions and nature-based experiences including Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation, Hamilton Island, Voyages Hotels and Resorts, Ardent Leisure Theme Parks and Journey Beyond.
Craig said that leading TEQ was a privilege, and he is excited to be stepping into the role at a pivotal time to contribute to shaping the future of tourism in Queensland.
“My passion for Queensland is my driving force and I will be applying all of my energy and experience, and working closely with all stakeholders to ensure Queensland continues to grow as a world-class tourism destination,” Craig said
Craig has led Tourism Australia’s Investment Attraction, Aviation Development, and Industry Development team including Indigenous tourism product and has held numerous board roles including six years as a director at Destination Gold Coast.
During his tenure at Tourism Australia, he actively contributed to the highly regarded “There’s Nothing Like Australia” campaign and as CEO of Dreamworld was instrumental in sensitively and diligently guiding the organisation following a tragic incident in 2016.
Making the announcement, Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said it was a fantastic appointment for Queensland, with the right person ready to help deliver the Crisafulli Government’s 20-year vision for the state’s tourism industry.
“Craig Davidson’s deep industry knowledge, exceptional leadership and strong private sector experience will help drive the state’s tourism and events industry at a crucial time as we deliver Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future.
“His infectious energy for Queensland will be a great asset as we continue to grow momentum in this important sector, which is one of our state’s biggest employers,” said Minister Powell.
TEQ Chair Grant Hunt said first and foremost Craig Davidson was a Queenslander who is passionate about the success of the tourism industry in his home state.
“What Craig doesn’t know about tourism isn’t worth knowing and importantly, he is a highly effective leader and collaborator who will help steer the sector’s vital work as we track toward Brisbane 2032.”
Craig takes over the reins from Patricia O’Callaghan who was appointed Director General of the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation in November. Group Executive Ollie Philpot has led TEQ since Trish’s departure and we acknowledge his tremendous efforts during this time.
Craig Davidson will join the team at TEQ on Monday 31 March.
