The Australian Geographic Society has launched its second annual Awards for Nature, a prestigious grant program providing tiered funding support to vital conservation projects across Australia.Â
This year, the total funding pool has increased to $150,000, which will be shared among five outstanding projects dedicated to tackling biodiversity loss, mitigating climate change, and addressing pollution through community-based initiatives.

Expressions of Interest for the 2025 Australian Geographic Awards for Nature are now open and will be accepted until 21 February 2025. Applicants are invited to submit a one-page narrative description of their project to be considered for a tiered grant of $50,000 (established program/project or organisation; a large-scale project with evidence of past successes), $30,000 (established program with some evidence of success and ready to scale up to the next level), or $20,000 (projects not yet fully established but with good potential and a plan for growth).
Chrissie Goldrick, Chair of the Australian Geographic Society, said: “Following the incredible success of our inaugural Awards for Nature last year, we are excited to expand our funding support in 2025 to address urgent conservation efforts across Australia. These awards play a pivotal role in empowering leaders who are making a tangible impact on Australia’s environment for future generations.”
The funding will provide both financial and practical assistance to courageous changemakers who are spearheading scientifically informed local solutions to Australia’s most pressing environmental challenges. The Grant recipients are selected through a comprehensive process by the Australian Geographic Society Advisory Board and Review Panel.
The inaugural 2024 Awards for Nature saw a total of $100,000 distributed to three groundbreaking conservation projects addressing threats to the Great Barrier Reef, marine pollution, and biodiversity loss due to the decline of pollinator species.Â
Building on this success, the 2025 Awards will expand to fund five winning projects, broadening the impact and reach of this crucial initiative.
The funds that drive this program are raised through subscriptions to Australian Geographic magazine, which automatically makes subscribers members of the Australian Geographic Society – the not-for-profit charity arm of Australian Geographic.
Successful Expressions of Interest will be invited to submit a full application for one of the five awards on offer. To check eligibility and apply, visit https://
