Uluṟu, Northern Territory: In an extraordinary celebration of art, nature, and innovation, Uluṟu’s globally acclaimed Field of Light by renowned artist Bruce Munro has been revitalized and extended to captivate visitors until at least April 2027. This announcement from Ayers Rock Resort marks another milestone for one of the world’s most mesmerizing art installations, further enhancing its allure with cutting-edge upgrades.
An Artistic Triumph Renewed
Bruce Munro’s Field of Light was first unveiled in 2016, inspired by the vibrant beauty of the desert’s flora after rainfall. Named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakunytjaku (“looking at lots of beautiful lights”) in the Pitjantjatjara language, the installation features 50,000 solar-powered spindles of light that gently sway across more than seven football fields. These glowing orbs transition through a stunning palette of ochre, violet, blue, and white, creating a surreal and ethereal landscape that has enchanted over 730,000 visitors.
After nearly a decade of enchantment, Munro and his team have completed a meticulous refurbishment of all luminous and fibre-optic components. This extensive upgrade ensures the artwork’s vibrancy and structural integrity for years.
“Creating the Field of Light at Uluṟu was a dream come true,” said Bruce Munro. “It’s a personal joy to see that it still shines bright in the landscape that inspired it.”
Immersive Upgrades to “A Night at Field of Light”
The exclusive A Night at Field of Light dining experience has also undergone a transformative revamp. This signature 4.5-hour event now offers an elevated stargazing feature, with high-powered telescopes enhancing the celestial wonder of the outback night sky. Visitors can indulge in a refreshed menu that showcases native Australian flavours, such as pineapple and lemon myrtle gazpacho and smoked kangaroo with pepperberry-infused yogurt.
To complement the culinary and celestial delights, new table decor, lighting, and crockery have been introduced, providing an unforgettable atmosphere for guests.
Matt Cameron-Smith, CEO of Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia, emphasized the significance of this experience: “Field of Light has been an Uluṟu must-do for almost a decade now, and we’re delighted to see it revitalized and extended so guests can continue to be wowed by its special, ethereal magic.”
