Discover Airlines flight 4Y12 took off for the first time yesterday at 10:20 a.m. from Frankfurt to Tulum Felipe Carillo Puerto International Airport in Mexico. The almost fully booked Airbus A330 landed on the Yucatán Peninsula on time at 4:05 p.m. Mexican local time. The passengers and crew were warmly welcomed by Governor Mara Lezama and German Ambassador Dr. Clemens von Goetze, among others.
Tulum Felipe Carillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) was opened in December 2023. Discover Airlines is the first European airline to fly to the new airport. It is also the first landing of a widebody aircraft there.
More convenient and faster than ever before to paradise
From December 12, 2024 to April 27, 2025, the leisure airline will offer a non-stop connection to the paradise on the Caribbean coast twice a week, always on Thursdays and Sundays. Until now, Tulum Airport could only be reached by connecting flights via the US or Mexico.
The months of December to April are considered the ideal time to travel to the region, as they fall within the dry season. Tulum is known for its idyllic beauty, endless sandy beaches, turquoise waters and well-preserved Mayan ruins. The city is also an ideal starting point for visiting Bacalar, Chetumal or other destinations in the southern Riviera and exploring more remote attractions such as the Sian Ka’an biosphere or Mayan sites like Cobá.
Tulum is the second Mexican destination in Discover Airlines’ route network and complements the year-round, up to four-weekly service between Frankfurt and Cancún. With the addition of the new destination, the airline is expanding the Lufthansa Group’s route portfolio to Mexico with another dream destination.
Flights to Tulum can be booked via discover-airlines.com, lufthansa.com and with all German tour operators and travel agencies.
