From 1 December, 2024 Hoshino Resorts will change the facility names of “Tanigawadake Ropeway” and “Tanigawadake Tenjindaira Ski Resort” located in Yubiso National Forest, Gunma Prefecture.
Tanigawadake Ropeway, which opened in 1959, will rebrand as “Tanigawadake Joch,” a year-round destination where visitors can experience spectacular views of the Tanigawa mountain range that change with the seasons and time of day.
The German term “Joch” means “saddle,” referring to the saddle-shaped terrain on the midsection of Mount Tanigawa and reflecting a visitor’s desire to feel closer to the mountain.
Tanigawadake Tenjindaira Ski Resort will change its name to “Mt.T by Hoshino Resorts,” an extreme ski field for domestic and international ski enthusiasts who are keen to experience exceptional-quality powder snow and varied terrain.
Hoshino Resorts began managing Tanigawadake Ropeway and Tanigawadake Tenjindaira Ski Resort in March 2022 but soon realised the facility names did not fully convey their appeal to visitors. The decision was therefore made to rename the facilities to promote a new image of Mount Tanigawa.
Easily accessible from Tokyo, Mount Tanigawa takes about two hours to reach by car or bullet train. Despite being less than 2,000 meters high, it offers views as dramatic as 3,000-meter-high peaks, thanks to its steep cliffs and crisscrossing mountain ridges.
During spring and summer, the area boasts lingering snow and fresh greenery, in autumn, vibrant foliage, and in winter, exceptional-quality powder snow. Visitors can enjoy various activities like cycling, mountain climbing, skiing, and snowboarding according to the season.
“Mt.T” further reflects the ski resort’s surrounding areas that start with the letter “T,” such as Mount Tanigawa, Tenjindaira, Tajirizawa, and Mount Takakura. Skiers and snowboarders will not only love the abundance of exceptional-quality powder snow but will enjoy the thrilling challenge of skiing down steep and dynamic terrain.
Hoshino Resorts also implements safety measures, such as beacon checkpoints, training for avalanche management personnel, and issues avalanche alert levels to ensure visitors can safely enjoy the powder snow.
