Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) is set to sponsor the upcoming Yatsushiro Cruise Festival, set to take place on October 5, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the vibrant Kumamon Port Yatsushiro. The festival will welcome guests, including those from Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas, as well as locals to celebrate and experience the incredible talents and products of the region.

“We believe in celebrating the uniqueness of every destination we visit, and by spotlighting local cultures, we build bridges of understanding and pride within communities. This ‘shop local’ initiative is a wonderful opportunity to bring together locals and guests, reinforcing the importance of supporting local economies and preserving cultural heritage,” said Wendy Yamazaki, Regional Vice President, Government Relations, Asia, Royal Caribbean Group.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the world’s longest tatami mat installation at Kumamon Port Yatsushiro, the festival will feature a variety of traditional cultural exhibitions and experiences, including:

  • Tatami and Bamboo Products: Visitors will discover the rich heritage of Kumamoto’s famed craftsmanship, including tatami and bamboo products, supporting local artisans.
  • Local Flavors: Guests will also be treated to tastings of Yatsushiro’s renowned craft gin, made from locally grown citrus fruits, as well as the opportunity to purchase and taste fresh regional produce, celebrating the area’s agricultural richness.
  • Cultural Experiences: Visitors can immerse themselves in authentic Japanese traditions by wearing samurai helmets, practicing origami with local students, partaking in a traditional tea ceremony, and enjoying traditional performances.
  • Japanese Lion Dance (2:30 PM):  This mesmerizing performance by locals, including children, will feature a special appearance by Kumamoto’s beloved mascot, Kumamon.
  • Taiko Drum Performance (3:00 PM):  A dynamic drum performance by local high school students, will showcase the energy and rhythm of Japan’s cultural heartbeat.

The Yatsushiro Cruise Festival is proudly supported by the Yatsushiro Inbound Tourism Promotion Strategy Executive Committee, which brings together local organizations and government bodies to showcase the spirit and talent of Kumamoto.
