After more than 60,000 people celebrated Australia’s spectacular performance in Paris at South Bank, Brisbane’s official Olympics and Paralympic LIVE Site, now it’s time to cheer on the 160 Aussie athletes representing the country at the 2024 Paralympic Games!

From Thursday August 29 to Sunday September 8, the LIVE Site at South Bank will share the moments, celebrate the medals, have stories told on stage, and entertain.

160 athletes across 17 sports will compete at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, with Queenslanders the largest state representation with 45 athletes, almost 30 per cent of the Australian team.

“Queensland athletes are shining right now, and with 45 in the Australian team for the 2024 Paris Paralympics starting next weekend, this is South Bank’s official invitation to celebrate them together,” said South Bank Corporation CEO, Bill Delves.

“Brisbane’s premier riverside precinct is the city’s official LIVE Site and is supporting with not just a huge screen and extended coverage, but a French theme throughout the cafes and restaurants, roads, chill areas and more. After we hosted more than 300 hours across the Olympics, we are looking forward to doing the same again for our Paralympians with a free, fully inclusive, open-air French-inspired community event.”

Until 8 September, visitors will be able to watch every heart-thumping moment on a larger-than-life screen, running the Nine Network’s live broadcast and replays.

Proudly presented in partnership with the Queensland Government, the big screen will feature the live telecast from 5.00pm to 12 midnight throughout the Paralympic Games, with daily sporting activities, weekend activations and entertainment, and onsite food trucks throughout the week and on weekends.

The live on-stage program, with MC duties shared between 9’s Dan Anstey and Paralympian Karni Liddell, supported by Pip Forbes, will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 6pm to 7pm.

Brisbane’s LIVE Site at South Bank will offer a jam-packed event schedule including:

  • FREE sporting activities from 7.30am to 10pm daily including table tennis, soccer, volleyball and badminton, with special activations over weekends for everyone to get involved and try their hand at different sports including challenges with the Sporting Wheelies and Triathlon Australia.
  • Athlete Interviews – during the Olympics, Jeff Horn, Duncan Armstrong, Ji Wallace, Caitlin Sargent and a host of other greats were interviewed on stage, with more ready to share their stories and thoughts during the Paris Paralympics.
  • Live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings as part of an evening event hosted by either Dan Anstey or Karni Liddell, that will include performances, special guests and interviews.
  • Food trucks offering wonderful dishes, from fish and chips, to Vietnamese, Greek, Chinese and desserts, perfect to grab and sit along the Seine, we mean Brisbane River (!), and enjoy the atmosphere!
  • Roving performances to keep everyone entertained including French mime artists, stilt performers, face painting, balloon artists, comedy acts and musical performers.

The Hon. Grace Grace MP, Minister for State Development and Infrastructure, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing encouraged Queenslanders to get behind Aussie athletes by coming together in support.

“We’re getting a taste of Games fever as we count down to our own Olympics and Paralympics eight years from now,” Ms Grace said. “All through Paris 2024, Queenslanders will be sharing the special excitement that goes with being a future Games host.”
