Tiny Away Escape at Lazarus Island has marked its first anniversary by being accredited as a sustainable tourism operator by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the international accreditation body for sustainable tourism certification.

On celebrating the milestone and accreditation, Tiny Away co-founder Jeff Yeo said: “We are delighted to be recognised as a sustainable tourism operator. This acknowledgement reflects our commitment to sustainable practices, and we are proud to align ourselves with GSTC’s global standards for sustainable tourism.”

Made up of five uniquely designed houses, since opening its doors Tiny Away Escape at Lazarus Island has welcomed over 3,500 guests and has enjoyed an average 80-90% occupancy rate. Not only are local Singaporeans enjoying a break from the bustle of the Lion City, but international guests including Aussies and Kiwis have embraced the unique getaway.

“It has been a huge year for Tiny Away Escape at Lazarus Island, and it’s so great to see people getting on board with our ethos of ‘discovering nature while staying in comfort’. We know that Aussies and Kiwis love Singapore, and this experience offers them a chance to see another side of the city” he said.

Visitors to the hidden gem island destination can spend the night in one of the eco-friendly low carbon carbon-emission tiny houses, located just a short 15-minute boat ride from the neighbouring island of Sentosa. Lazarus Island is still unknown to many locals, let alone international visitors, offering an idyllic paradise escape.

The sustainably built tiny houses allow guests to rest and enjoy comfortable accommodation with all the modern musts including split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and a bathroom, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers). Solar energy is the main source of power, supported by the grid for contingency. High-tech food waste recycling systems reduce and recycle food waste from guests.

“Tiny Away Escape at Lazarus Island is the first accommodation on the island in its history. It’s so rewarding to be able to both reinvigorate interest in the destination while introducing ecotourism experiences to travellers.

“The entire tiny home experience on Lazarus Island has been carefully designed to ensure visitors enjoy their stay while respecting the environment and leaving the island unscathed,” concluded Yeo.
