The announcement came on a crisp Tuesday morning when AirAsia received the much-anticipated Air Operator’s Certificate, setting the stage for the airline’s inaugural flight scheduled for Thursday, May 2, 2024. Operating from Phnom Penh International Airport, AirAsia Cambodia will connect the historic vistas of Siem Reap and the vibrant shores of Sihanoukville with significant Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok hubs.

The strategic expansion is part of AirAsia’s visionary “ONE Airline” strategy, which aims to streamline operations and enhance service delivery across its network. With an initial fleet of two Airbus A320s, the new airline is poised to become a powerhouse in affordable air travel, contributing significantly to regional tourism and economic growth.

Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A, expressed his enthusiasm for the venture, noting, “Launching AirAsia Cambodia is not just a business move; it’s a commitment to the heart and spirit of Cambodia—a nation celebrated for its resilience and vibrant growth. We are immensely grateful to the Secretariat of State Civil Aviation of Cambodia for their trust and cooperation.”
