Developed to support its Whole Person Development lifelong learning philosophy, Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s Back to School program offers colleagues who left school prematurely with the opportunity to gain their High School Diploma in-house by undertaking formal education alongside their employment at Melco. Recently, with the support of Escola Seong Fan da Associação Commercial de Macau, six Back to School program enrollee colleagues with outstanding academic scores visited Anhui province on a history and culture study tour sponsored by Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ). The experience served to further enhance colleagues’ knowledge gained from Company’s Splendors of China program for instilling national pride and patriotism through education and awareness.
The five-day “Mountain & City Experience” Anhui History and Culture Study Tour took place between March 16-20. The trip’s itinerary included a visit to Mount Huangshan, frequently recognized as ‘the loveliest mountain of China’ and which has played an important role in the history of art and literature in China, the UNESCO World Heritage area of Hongcun Ancient Village, the picturesque sceneries of Xin’an River Landscape Gallery, and the historical Tunxi District Ancient Street. Students were offered the chance to better understand traditional methods of fishing in Anhui, and to learn about the special Huimo inking method, as well as tea making techniques through interactive workshops. Furthermore, to promote and encourage the Chinese virtue of caring for others, students paid visits to groups in need in collaboration with local charitable groups.
Melco Back to School learning program colleagues who joined the tour included:
- Ms. Mandy Zeng, Dealer, Table Games, Studio City
- Mr. Carlos Wong, Pit Supervisor, Table Games, Studio City

Speaking about her tour experience, Ms. Mandy Zeng said, “I am grateful to the company for offering me this opportunity. I wish also to thank Escola Seong Fan da Associação Commercial de Macau for arranging the trip, and to DESDJ for its support – which enabled me the chance to travel with so many outstanding students and explore the history and culture of China. It was a really enjoyable and unforgettable trip.”
Fellow Back to School enrollee, Ms. Hicadi Wong added, “Among countless journeys, this trip was certainly the most exciting for me.
