In an unprecedented move set to redefine the parameters of international travel, Qantas has proudly announced the inauguration of its direct flights from Perth to Paris, poised to take to the skies in July 2024. This monumental development not only solidifies Qantas’s reputation as a trailblazer in the aviation industry but also marks the airline’s grand return to the French capital after nearly two decades.
Seizing the moment with impeccable timing, the launch is strategically aligned with the fervour of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the European summer, promising an influx of over 75,000 additional seats to and from Europe annually. For West Australians, this translates to the fastest and most seamless travel experience to Paris, as the 17-hour sojourn aboard the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner trims a substantial three hours off the current quickest travel time.
Beginning 12 July 2024, the Perth-Paris route will operate four times a week during the peak European summer, transitioning to three weekly services from mid-August 2024. The significance of this development is not lost on Vanessa Hudson, CEO of Qantas Group, who expressed her enthusiasm about reintroducing Paris to the Qantas network with a direct Australian link.
“Today marks a monumental day for Qantas and Australian travelers,” Ms Hudson stated. “Direct flights to London and Rome have already captured the hearts of our customers, and with Paris being the next top-requested destination, we anticipate an overwhelming response to this service.”
The CEO emphasized the role of these direct flights in facilitating the journey of Australian athletes to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, underscoring Qantas’s unique position as the sole airline offering non-stop travel from Australia to Europe.
“We have meticulously tailored our in-flight services to cater to the long-haul traveler, ensuring a comfortable and memorable journey,” she added.
In collaboration with Tourism WA, Qantas is poised to harness this golden opportunity to magnetize tourists to Western Australia, fully aware of the allure that direct flights hold in influencing travel decisions.
The Qantas Group’s fleet expansion and recent surge in flying activities signal a robust return to form, with international capacity expected to surpass 90% of pre-COVID levels by the year’s end and a full recovery anticipated by mid-next year.
Seamless connections to other domestic destinations in Australia will be facilitated through Qantas’ existing terminal at Perth Airport (Terminal 3), with promising negotiations underway regarding operations to Terminal 1.
WA Premier Roger Cook hailed the strategic move as a testament to Western Australia’s growing stature as the Western Gateway to Australia, citing the immense potential to spur economic growth, generate employment, and bolster the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Beyond Paris, the new service unlocks access to many destinations, spanning over 70 locations across Europe, including Barcelona, Munich, Frankfurt, and Athens, and 12 French cities via Qantas’s network of partners.
Additionally, a “circle fare” offering allows Qantas customers the flexibility of flying into Paris and returning to Australia from London or Rome on a single ticket.
Prospective travellers can seize this unique opportunity, with fares on sale starting from $1,899 from Perth, available until 2 November unless sold out prior. Bookings can be made via qantas.com or through professional Travel Agents.
This bold step by Qantas not only charts a new aviation course but also stands as a testament to the resilience and forward-thinking ethos that define the Australian spirit. The Perth to Paris direct route is more than just a travel option—it’s a bridge between continents, a catalyst for cultural exchange, and a boon for business and tourism, ready to take flight and soar into the annals of aviation history.
