Visama Mae Chan: Northern Thailand’s Epitome of Charitable Luxury. Set amidst the picturesque mountains of Chiang Rai, a new five-star haven emerges: the Visama Mae Chan luxury tented camp. Scheduled to greet its first guests on November 1, this exquisite sanctuary is the brainchild of the Visama Hospitality Group (VHG) Asia, marking its foray into premier lodge hospitality with a remarkable 10-tent facility.
But there’s more to this establishment than mere luxury. Visama Mae Chan has a distinct vision and is committed to not-for-profit principles, benefiting the esteemed ‘Friends of Thai Daughters Foundation’. This US-registered non-profit is the life’s work of directors Patty Zinkowski and Jane McBride, tirelessly labouring to combat child trafficking through empowering young girls from local hill tribe communities.
A heartfelt statement from the foundation conveyed their sentiment: “We’re deeply moved that Visama Mae Chan stands as a symbol of sustainable income and an avenue for career opportunities for our daughters. This collaboration with Visama signifies the beginning of an impactful journey.”
The grand revelation of this opulent property was made at Bangkok’s illustrious Siam Hotel on September 27 to an exclusive assembly of travel aficionados. While showcasing this masterpiece, VHG Asia’s stalwarts, Willem Niemeijer of YAANA Ventures and Christopher Stafford of The Occident & Orient Company, emphasized the uniqueness of Visama Mae Chan in the Northern Thai landscape. 12 more luxurious tents will soon flank the introductory ten units come 2024.
Niemeijer, renowned for his commendable ventures in eco-lodges across Thailand and Cambodia, introduced the bespoke “journeys” designed for the guests. Each journey spans two to four days and encapsulates enriching themes, from ‘farm to table dining’ and ‘Lanna cultural immersion’ to ‘artistic encounters’ and ‘outdoor escapades’.
Every luxury tent, named after hill tribes like “Akha”, “Lahu”, “Yao”, and “Hmong”, boasts an expansive area ranging from 48 to 80 sqm, accompanied by a 12 to 20 sqm veranda. Thoughtfully equipped with amenities like air conditioning, espresso machines, WiFi, rain showers, and a 24-hour concierge service, guests are guaranteed a lavish stay.
A prime attraction is ‘The Ambalama’, an enclave for interactive storytelling sessions and enlightening discussions with esteemed authors and historians. The ‘Reu Doo Gaan’ restaurant complements intellectual engagement, presenting an amalgamation of authentic Lanna delicacies, organic local produce, and international culinary wonders.
VHG’s Chief Operating Officer, Chris Stafford, envisaged the Visama Mae Chan experience as a harmonious blend of Lanna culture and luxury, set against the mesmerizing backdrop of the Golden Triangle’s mythical mountains. Among the myriad of curated experiences, guests can relish private picnics, immersive arts and crafts sessions, customized dining, meditation workshops, and even archery.
In an exhilarating dialogue with the travel trade representatives, Niemeijer expressed Visama’s core ethos: “Our commitment is to integrate our camps into the natural milieu, offering guests an invigorating connection with nature, complemented by state-of-the-art amenities and unparalleled service.”
For those eager to partake in this unique blend of luxury and purpose, reservations for Visama Mae Chan commenced on September 27 for stays beginning November 1, 2023. Further insights and bookings can be explored at https://maechan.visamalodges.com or Darunee@visamalodges.com.
