VietJet A330 aircraftIn an unprecedented move, the Prime Ministers of Australia and Vietnam, Anthony Albanese and Pham Minh Chinh, have jointly endorsed the inauguration of a direct flight route between the two countries, signalling a new era in bilateral relations. This announcement was made in Hanoi at the Bilateral Meeting on Vietnam-Australia relations, a significant milestone marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the nations.

The newly launched direct route, pioneered by Vietjet, connects Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane, establishing an air bridge expected to streamline travel and boost economic cooperation between the two nations. During the official event, Vietjet, recognised for its innovative strides, received a Testimonial of Appreciation from the bilateral delegates.

Among the attendees at this distinguished event were Vietjet’s Chairwoman and President, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, and Chief Executive, Dinh Viet Phuong, along with leaders and representatives from various sectors of both countries.

Australian and Vietnamese Prime Ministers recognise new direct flights between Australia and Vietnam at Bilateral Meeting in Hanoi

Vietjet President & Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong (red T-shirt, grey vest) received the Testimonial of Appreciation from Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski in recognition of the new direct route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane under the witnesses of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Prime Minister Albanese expressed his pleasure in his speech at the increased direct flights to Australian capitals, particularly Brisbane. “And in the case of Vietjet, direct flights, for the first time, to beautiful Brisbane in the leadup to its hosting the Olympics in 2032, of course,” he said, reflecting the strategic importance of this venture in the backdrop of the forthcoming global sports event.

Scheduled to commence on 16th June 2023, the direct routes between Ho Chi Minh City and Brisbane will operate twice weekly, facilitated by the state-of-the-art wide-body A330 aircraft. The inaugural flight is slated to depart Ho Chi Minh City at 10:50 (local time), with the estimated arrival in Brisbane at 21:55 (local time).

The return flight will leave Brisbane at 23:30 (local time), touching down in Ho Chi Minh City at 05:10 the following day (local time). This new route not only underlines the strengthening of bilateral relations but also sets a robust foundation for enhancing trade relations between Vietnam and Queensland.
