Central Park Mall, on Sydney’s CBD fringe, is slated to be Sydney’s most exciting and vibrant urban playground with a multi-million-dollar transformation and the welcoming of a host of new entertainment, dining, and retail offerings to the centre and greenspace.
Sydney’s prime downtown location celebrates the opening of Fortress Sydney – an entertainment, esports and video game powerhouse. Crowned the largest video games and entertainment venue in the Southern Hemisphere, Fortress Sydney, welcomes locals, travellers, casual gamers, and gaming fanatics, to an entertainment precinct unlike anything the state has seen before.
Opening on Saturday 8 April, the first-of-its-kind venue in NSW, sprawling over two levels and across 2,500 sqm, has capacity for over 1,000 people. With six distinct spaces including a fantasy-themed tavern, esports arena with mezzanine area for spectators, sci-fi inspired bar, dedicated arcade area, PC gaming zone, high-speed Telstra lounge, private party booths – there is something for everyone, and all ages!
Fortress CEO and Co-Founder, Jon Satterley says, “We have poured our hearts into every detail to create a venue that’s nothing short of spectacular, and we can’t wait to welcome our customers into the space. With state-of-the-art facilities, including the innovative 2315 bar featuring an interactive AI activation, Fortress Sydney offers an immersive and engaging experience that you won’t find anywhere else.
“The venue builds on the Fortress Character Lore and aesthetic of the Melbourne venue, and includes our themed Fantasy Tavern, VIP gaming areas, an upsized Arcade with the latest video games, a dedicated PC LAN lounge in partnership with Telstra and the enormous multi-level Alienware Arena which will be the centrepiece of amazing events throughout the year.”
The opening of Fortress Sydney kicks off a new era for Central Park Mall, re-invigorating what is on offer to meet the needs of the downtown local and a broader destination seeker. Solidifying itself as an entertainment hub, Fortress Sydney joins indie-favourite, Palace Cinemas and modern-arcade, Timezone, with a new 150+ seat Yum Cha and contemporary Sushi Train set to complete Central Park Mall’s reimagined entertainment and dining offer.
An exciting schedule of new openings throughout 2023 will see new tastes, sights, and experiences join the centre, creating a space for customers to play, shop, eat and socialise.
Fortius, part of Growthpoint Properties Australia’s, Senior Asset Manager, in charge of the repositioning, Melissa Kaczmarek says, “We are so excited to introduce a new range of retailers and experiences into our centre and greenspace. The opening of a world class venue like Fortress Sydney brings something so unique to the south CBD and is an opportunity for us to entertain and delight our valued local customers and welcome new customers to a reinvigorated Central Park Mall.
“But that won’t be all. Fortress Sydney signals the beginning of great change at Central Park Mall, and we look forward to announcing a host of new restaurants, cafes, pop-ups, experiences, and art installations throughout 2023. It’s an exciting time ahead.”
Sam Sproats, Executive Director of Funds at Fortius, the joint owner of Central Park Mall, said the revitalisation of the precinct and introduction of Fortress Sydney will not only transform Central Park Mall but will also revolutionise Sydney’s 24-hour economy, offering a thriving day and night destination.
“Once complete, Central Park Mall will deliver a truly unmatched lifestyle for Chippendale residents, surrounding university students and the broader Sydney community, creating a dynamic and exciting destination.”
Foodies will rejoice with a range of delicious bites soon to be on offer. Customers can enjoy a new Yum Cha restaurant by renowned restauranteurs Sunny Seafood, a dumpling bar, kaitenzushi by Uoebi, and new street level restaurants and cafes.
Launching on 15 April and running every Saturday, Central Park Farmer’ Market will activate on leafy Chippendale Green. Between 8:30am-2pm, up to 46 market stalls of local providores, producers, growers, and artisans will make this central location the perfect spot for fresh groceries and delicious finds.
Operated by Organic Farmers Markets – the team behind established locations such as Orange Grove, Marrickville and Double Bay, Director Stephen Choularton said that he expects that a regular market serving the locals of Chippendale and surrounds will prove popular for a weekly fresh food shop, the chance to pick up something a little gourmet and to meet up with friends and neighbours over a coffee on a Saturday morning.
Stephen says “Central Park has always been a vibrant community with many calling it, and the surrounding area, home. We’re delighted to be joining together with Central Park Mall management to bring the Central Park Farmers Market to the city each week and together with our stallholders look forward to becoming part of the Chippendale community.”
