Passionate train lovers and hobbyists from across the country are set to descend on Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway in March, for the first time in four years, with the return of the ‘Train and Hobby Show’.
The three-day expo includes trains of all gauges, model railways, radio control vehicles, HAM radios and a range of other crafts and hobbies, with stalls from more than 50 speciality retailers and organisations from across the country.
From absolute beginners to seasoned experts, the train show has something to offer everyone and is a chance for people to reconnect with their hobby communities, says Train & Hobby show expo manager Richard Searles.
“The fantastic thing about these hobbies is that it’s easy to get started; you don’t need a lot of time or money,” Searles says. “And it’s not just about making things, it’s also about spending time with like-minded hobbyists and gaining new skills.”
Along with static demonstrations, train rides and free demonstrations, a range of short classes will take people step-by-step through making their own creations, with materials and tools supplied for a small fee.
Several seated areas with refreshments are also available, so visitors can rest and catch up over lunch or a cuppa.
The three-day ‘Train and hobby show’ runs at Sandown Raceway over the Labour Day weekend, from Saturday March 11 to Monday March 13. Entry is $20, with multi-day passes available.
