This group of seasoned professionals will utilize their years of experience and wealth of expertise to advance Broken Sound Club to the forefront of the industry across finance, food and beverage, marketing, and hospitality, making it one of the most desirable South Florida communities to live in. See below for an introduction to these hospitality leaders and their insights into the major trends they believe will be dominating their industries in 2023 and beyond.
Lisa Hutcherson, Director of Finance
Lisa has over 34 years of experience in the Finance industry, having started her career at ClubCorp as a Regional Accounting Manager. After this role, she worked as a Director of Finance at Arizona Country Club before becoming Chief Financial Officer at The Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona. Lisa joined the Broken Sound team as the Director of Finance in April, 2022, and will specialize in overseeing financial and budgeting operations in her new role.
“I believe the #1 trend in finance is improving efficiencies through technology. This is being achieved through the implementation of Accounts Payable automation, utilizing virtual cards and ACH methods when working with vendors, and integrating better Point of Sale and back of house systems. By implementing these best practices at Broken Sound Club, I’m confident my team and I will be able to achieve exponential growth for the club in the near future and beyond.”
Michael Huminski, Director of Food and Beverage
Having over 10 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Michael began his career at the renowned Boca Raton Resort & Club. Acting as the Boca Beach Club’s Director of Restaurants and Bars for the past five years, Michael joined the Broken Sound Club team in February, 2022 as the Director of Food and Beverage. In his new role, Michael will specialize in overseeing F&B operations and providing a world-class member experience, elevating Broken Sound Club’s food and beverage offerings in a way that has never been done before.
“I see locally sourced, sustainable, healthy dining continuing to be a major trend in 2023. Guests want to enjoy delicious, nutrient-dense meals crafted by adaptable chefs that can create unique experiences that meet various dietary requests and lifestyles. I also
see pop up dining venues in unique and undiscovered areas of our grounds becoming more popular for intimate dining experiences.”
Jessica Gonzalez, Director of Marketing
Jessica brings 17 years of hospitality communications and marketing experience to Broken Sound Club, joining the team in March 2022. Jessica began her career with Four Seasons, various Hilton brands and was most recently the Director of Marketing at The Seagate in Delray Beach. In her new role, Jessica will be responsible for the development of Broken Sound Club’s marketing and social media strategies, creating an increased level of exposure and elevating the Broken Sound Club brand.
“A trend I see flourishing in 2023 is a surge of creative multi-generational content uniting families over shared experiences that are shared across various digital platforms from Facebook to Instagram and more.”
Kord Laughlin, Director of Restaurants
Kord brings 10 years of hospitality bar experience to Broken Sound Club. He began his career at The Boca Raton Resort and Club, and
progressed to become the Assistant General Manager where he oversaw the operations of several dining outlets and assisted with the daily operations for The Flamingo Grill. Kord joined the Broken Sound team in March of 2022 as Director of Restaurants where he is responsible for the management and oversight of all dining concepts, creating the most enjoyable dining experience for members and their guests.
“In 2023, I believe healthier alternatives on menus will be more requested by guests and prevalent on menus across the country, such as requests for options that are sugar free, gluten free, dairy free, nut free, dairy free, meat free, sustainably and ethically sourced, and more. Broken Sound Club intends to incorporate such options into our offerings to provide more of an all-encompassing experience for our members. As we navigate these new expectations, our team of professionals can make accommodations based off of member need on a case-by-case basis, but I think seeing these more non-traditional options readily available would positively impact the member experience in the coming year.”
Stephanie Morefield, Event Sales Manager
Stephanie has spent the past 5 years in the private club industry, having began her career at Bellerive Country Club as an Events Manager. She then joined the Lauderdale Yacht Club team as the Catering Manager where she was responsible for the Banquet Department. Joining Broken Sound Club in May 2022, in her new role Stephanie will be responsible for event sales, including logistics and negotiating event contracts, and will set a new standard for event venues in South Florida.
“As in-person events have fully resumed following the pandemic, they also look much different than they used to. We are seeing traditions evolve within organizations and families during the event planning stages for a variety of reasons; mostly due to how the entire industry has been and continues to evolve. Events have become larger in scale and are utilizing more technology and innovation in event design and production elements. As specialty lighting effects are certainly trending in event production, our renovated spaces lend themselves nicely to these types of details. I believe our spaces will lead to many events with creative lighting components to really elevate the overall event design.”
Lorant Botha, Assistant General Manager
Lorant has over 17 years of food and beverage experience, starting his career at North Shore Country Club as a Banquet and Restaurant Supervisor. Joining the Broken Sound Club Team in 2005, he held various positions before working his way to become the Assistant General Manager. In his new role, Lorant is responsible for facility management and overseeing all of the departments, creating a seamless experience for members across all verticals.
“In the 21st century, environmental needs and guest preferences have steered our industry toward sustainability and ecologically friendly policies. Such efforts include: eliminating harmful chemicals, doing away with Styrofoam products, minimizing single-use plastic items, prioritizing the use of paper products, composting food waste into fertilizer for the golf courses, protecting and enriching wildlife on Club grounds, converting to an all-electrical golf cart fleet, and much more.
The important lesson that our team has learned is that although we may not fully achieve our goal in the short term, we must strive for improvement in every area across the board. This responsibility lies not just with the decision makers, but with every employee, for today’s existence as well as that of future generations. It is our social responsibility, backed by our conscience and the support of our patrons that motivates us on a daily basis.”
