Safari lovers, get ready for an unparalleled experience! Get ready to witness a new era of luxury and comfort as the leading safari operator embarks on a comprehensive refurbishment and rebuild of their safari camps in Africa. The brand new 2-bedroom Sambuk Suite at Mara Nyika in Kenya will be opening in the middle of May 2023, while the Sitatunga Private Island Camp and its 2-bedroomed Sitatunga Private Island Suite will open in the middle of July.

The refurbishment plans also include a change in the names of existing 2-bedroom suites to offer guests a fresh and updated experience during the coming safari season. The Sitatunga Private Island Camp will offer two luxury guest suites in addition to the private 2-bedroom Sitatunga Private Island Suite. Once reopened, the guest tents will be on slightly raised decking but still close to the ground, providing a unique and natural safari experience. All areas of the camp will receive new furniture and décor, while a new swimming pool will offer guests a refreshing retreat.
Zarafa Camp is also receiving a comprehensive refresh, including a renovation of all interiors with more antique furniture. A new covered, interactive kitchen is being built where the current pizza oven deck is located. The current wine cellar underneath the main deck is being converted into a sunken, hidden hide. The new wine cellar will relocate to the main area. Upon reopening, the 2-bedroom Private Suite will be renamed The Dhow Suite at Zarafa. A comprehensive refresh of all interiors with new antique, campaign-styled furniture is included, and new furniture and décor are being added to the camp’s central area and guest tents. All guest tent bathrooms will be fully enclosed upon reopening, and each guest tent will also have small verandas added with views toward the Selinda Spillway.

Ol Donyo Lodge is also undergoing exciting changes, offering 8 Deluxe Suites and the 2-bedroom Sambu suite (family suite) upon reopening. All the Suites will have similar interior layouts with the removal of the split-level flooring. Spa treatments will take place in-room, providing guests with added privacy and convenience. A brand new fire deck under the stars off the main area will be available for guests to enjoy. A new and improved sunken hide will be placed in the current location, allowing guests to remain there all day while watching wildlife. The new hide is spacious, comfortable, and conducive to relaxation, and can even accommodate guests who want to overnight alongside the waterhole. A coffee machine and fridge will be included for guests’ use.

Mara Plains Camp is receiving a soft refurbishment with some décor upgrades, including upgraded guest suite entrances to wooden Zanzibari doors. A large, theatrical, interactive kitchen is being built on the left-hand side of the central main dining area. The Reserve Collection Suite has been renamed The Jahazi Suite at Mara Plains, reopening on 24 March 2023. The seasonal Explorer-Collection safari camp, Mara Toto Camp, reopens for the Masaai Mara safari season from 13 April to 15 November 2023.
