Lachlan ‘Lachy’ Mansell may have had a life-changing makeover when he stole Australia’s heart as winner of Beauty and the Geek 2021, but that’s not stopping him from doing it again as he races towards a brand-new look by cropping off his locks to support Australians living with blood cancer.

Best known for his lifelong interest in cars and motor racing (fun fact – his first word was ‘car’), Lachy says that being on Beauty and the Geek is only part of his story with the lovable geek broadening his horizons and challenging himself since appearing on the show.

With a fundraising target of $10,000, Lachy is gearing up to help beat blood cancer and today announced his pledge with a super charged moment at Sydney Motorsport Park, where he was joined by blood cancer survivor and Beauty and the Geek fan, Ruby D’Rozario, who spoke with Lachy about her personal experience with blood cancer and what it means to her to have Aussies like him signing up and fundraising for World’s Greatest Shave.

“Over the last two years I’ve discovered the importance of stepping outside my comfort zone. I hope by taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave that I’ll have another chance to inspire people to push their own boundaries and join me,” said Lachy.

“It’s also a great opportunity for me to help raise awareness of blood cancer and valuable funds for a very worthy cause.”

Over two million Australians have taken part in World’s Greatest Shave by shaving, cutting or colouring their hair, or donating to someone who has, since the iconic fundraising event first began 25 years ago.

Lachy will join a long list of well-known faces who have also participated in the past including The Bachelor’s Dr Matt Agnew, Kerri-Anne Kennerly, the late Steve Irwin, Meshel Laurie, Grant Hackett, Shane Crawford, and Steven Bradbury to name a few.

“I’m a bit nervous about how I’m going to look with my head shaved but I know I’m in good company. Those who lose their hair after a devasting blood cancer diagnosis don’t have a choice like I do, so I’m doing it for them.”

“The funds I raise through World’s Greatest Shave are crucial to ensuring those facing blood cancer get the support they need. It will also help drive breakthrough research projects to better diagnose, treat and hopefully one day cure blood cancer.”

Big or small, every single donation helps and Lachy believes that by banding together we have the power to make an extraordinary difference to the lives of the 135,000 Australians living with blood cancer today.

He added; “I’m urging fellow geeks and Aussies everywhere to get behind me and either donate to my campaign or sign up themselves to shave, cut or colour their hair.”

Since speeding to fame through his reality TV experience, Lachy spent 12 months with KIIS FM Sydney’s Kyle and Jackie-O Show taking on a number of on and off-air roles and hosting his own Lachy Live program. He also has his own business, Chequered Flag Media, providing a range of journalism, public relations and commentary services to motorsport magazines, drivers, teams and categories.
