Australia’s closest neighbour, New Caledonia, saw a record number of visitors from the country in December 2022. The destination, known for its blend of French culture and South Pacific charm, welcomed 4,144 Australian tourists, surpassing the pre-pandemic record of 2,898 visitors in December 2019.

The arrival of tourists from Australia, who stayed an average of 10.8 days, was a result of lifted travel restrictions and the demand for overseas holidays during the summer and Christmas period. Rebecca Marchal, Account Director for New Caledonia Tourisme Australia, attributes the success to the efforts of industry partners, wholesalers, and travel agents who educated themselves and sold the destination to clients.
New Caledonia offers visitors a combination of natural beauty, friendly locals, and a diverse cuisine reflective of its location in the South Pacific. Whether seeking a touch of French elegance or a relaxing beach getaway, Australia’s nearest neighbour is the perfect destination.
